The song is impressionistic; its all about texture and depth. There are no melodies here! Just a big, luscious, ghostly wall of sound! Oh, and listening to it on good headphones or stereo speakers is a must.

Agreed. I mean I thoroughly enjoyed hearing fresh BoC for the first time in years, but its not surprising that it wasn't released on an album. Gives me the feeling that this is the reason for much of their archive - potentially lots of quality individual works that didn't end up being good to mesh with others for a cohesive album.

Kind of "meh" to me at the moment. That classic somber synth line is a bit lost in all that noise. The intro loop is from a track off old tunes, its "audio track 6" on my mp3s. The loop on the old site actually sounds more attractive to me. It also sounds much different in respect to the levels of certain elements which leads me to inquire whether this 747 we hear now might be different from an original 747. It sounds like this warp 20 version might be a recently produced juxtaposition of tracks and ideas from the band in 2009, rather than some "original" which the clip on atomless seems to hint at.

Anyways, we'll never know. This track, as great as it is compared to the whole field of music, feels like a "third strike" for Boards of Canada to me. From the Why? remix to this Seven Forty Seven song it seems their music is getting flatter and less..."courageous" for lack of a better word. Maybe the well has dried up. Ive been waiting for a new LP since I joined this forum about 4 years ago and I'm still ready to be blown away, but the music lately just feels like an afterthought.

Even though the song is playing at the right speed, the old audiotrack 6 elements seem faster. I wonder what that song is actually called. It's probably my favorite one out of that particular collection.

Yeah but as you probably know its so easy to stretch audio with a computer these days.

Had the opportunity to listen to this track finally (don't have the box set yet, though), and here are my thoughts:

This is Boards' most shoegazey track they've released, in terms of production aesthetics. The drums are further back in the mix, and the melody, samples and other pieces wash together into an eerie haze.

When I first listened to it, I was standing near a big window looking out into a brooding cell of cumulonimbus clouds. The track fit that feel really well...I almost imagine a Boeing 747 flying through a wall of mist and gray, with hints of the sun shining through occasionally.

There are definitely melodies here, but incredibly subtle. The wall of sound hides a lot of constant details and melodic bits in the track. Having said that though, the structure of the track is very repetitive and linear. But fortunately BoC do that style better than most...it feels like this track is timeless. It's like an eternal moment in sound.

Still will take me a while to get used to it...the "wall" effect can wear the ears, but I'm sure it'll grow on me (it's dense enough to hear something new each time).

I feel the same about this as isawdrones. Tried to listen to the 6.44 full version but I can't focus on it, can't grasp it, can't..listen to it. I know there are melodies and themes in there but thus far it's a wall of sound. Maybe with more listens that will change, but this is a difficult one for me.

Meanwhile I'll keep listening to the original 2.05 that's sitting out on YouTube and leave it looping...

Except this was recorded for Geogaddi, so it's not really "new" or an accurate indicator of where their sound is at this point. Plus, it sounds a lot better at 33 rpm.

I've given it a few goes now and it still doesn't really do anything for me, but I'm inclined to agree with previous comments that this is probably a Geogaddi era track that's been given a recent re-rub. It fits more with the spacious/ dubby direction they seem be going down with Trans Canada and the Why? remix, which for me bodes well for the next release, but this track in itself doesn't really stand up on it's own.

it was interesting. i'm glad they packed so much stuff into the tune so it will keep on giving as you give it more listens. but it doesn't make my top 10 list or anything.

It might have been the moment, but I was pretty into it last night.. Like Evan said, it is quite shoegazy - although the percussion was somewhat minimal I loved every bit of it! I'm curious as to what they are up to these days as most of us are - and I definitely wouldn't mind hearing them do more similar tracks what-so-ever.

It reminds me of Souvlaki Space Station by Slowdive... Actually, i love it, it's a beautiful wall of sound. Reminds me of the sort of stuff i was listening to as a floppy haired teenager.

I can see how it didn't fit on Geogaddi - though it is fairly similar to Opening the Mouth i think.

i've been just sitting on atomless listening... don't want to experience it for the first time on youtube. waiting to fire up my turntable when i eventually get it.

it's coming to my address in pennsylvania... then family will mail it up to my dorm address in boston. i wasn't in this dorm when i pre-ordered it... a few extra days wait for me =(

it shouldn't be too too long. I just didn't know what my campus mailing address would be when i was ordering it in the summer - so my parents are getting it first, and shipping it to boston ASAP [i hope!

I love it.

Listened to it back to back now three times, then stuck Last Walk Around Mirror Lake on my mp3 turntable and recorded that too.

Both are now sitting happily on my Sony mp3 player and sound fantastic.

I, for one, am very happy with Seven Forty Seven.
