I am a unix network programmer, and small business administrator. I also do contract programming work... from databases, to web applications, to network solutions.

I didn't go to college. I was working full time for a company by my sophomore year and graduated high school early. Another interesting fact that is that I got a letter from the NSA when I was 13, for hacking a government ISP. Yes, I successfully hacked it in less than 2 hours, I also did not get caught. I made a stupid decision to taunt them afterward which lead to me being caught.

:)

Used to study to become a hardcore scientist (molecular biology/bio-informatics), but quited half way my master (lost interest among other reasons). In half a year I will probably finish my second bachelor for some IT study. I will officially be a coder but also (maybe more) affinity with user experience, design etc. Currently working on iGoogle gadgets to earn my degree.....

Just graduated in college in May, but now I have a silly little job at a bakery. Everyone who works there, including me is a substantial pothead, which makes for a nice relaxed work ethic. It's such a breeze, and the bread is fucking righteously delicious.

worked in my family's restaurant until I was 21 then got a job in a neurosurgery clinic. Worked there for three years and after busting my ass and caring about my work more than anyone there (besides the nurses and surgeons.. most of them) I was fired wrongfully and didn't care enough to fight for my job because I knew my boss wouldn't believe me any way..

Then got a job as a manager in an italian cafe which is where I am currently. :)

That'd be sweet! I've always wanted to work at a theme park. Or maybe a zoo...
Is it a big theme park?

I'm the only guy here.

Well in four days I'll be starting my new job, and I'm totally nervous. I enlisted in the army in may and I've been waiting to ship out for a few months. Should be back just before christmas. Anyways, hope all goes well here and maybe we'll have something more than a black box by then!

I stock shelves, retail.

Boring as all get out, and I pretty much hate it all the time. Sometimes, though, I think I may hate the idea of work altogether. Hustling around doing somebody else's bidding for a paycheck. Meh, whatever. That's life, I guess!

I work in a DIY store as a salesman. I work there for quite some years now including the time I only did it part-time.
I worked on every department by now and the job is still challenging. There is still so much new stuff to learn, evenso because my company bought another DIY company which went bankrupt about 5 years ago. And this company also had a garden centre, so that's totally new for me.

I always wondered what I would do for a living and never really thought about this option until they offered me a full-time job. The most coolest thing of it all is that the job is extremely varied and that makes the time pass by very quick , plus it's very healthy as I walk about 5-10km a day.
I feel it's time for an update as my previous post is a bit outdated after all these years.

I'm still working at the same place but I made some promotion. I'm currently a floor manager so my daily duties have changed over the years. In here lies a new challenge for me because I have to work on my executive powers. Right now I'm reading an essay about the different styles of managing and when to adjust them. It's also a great opportunity to enrich my self-development which have been on hold for quite some years.

Earlier this year I worked as a data entry and phone answering drone for a global shipping and logistics company. It paid well, and it sucked the life out of me. I quit.

Now I am self-employed as an illustrator, making almost no money at all. I love what I do and I wish I could do it forever. But the money isn't enough. Something will have to change.

I work at a desk, converting 80page word documents into a wiki for an insurance company. I like it pretty well but I just think about music all day and it's kind of depressing/gray. hooray offices.

Still working in education, but as some of you may recall I was also setting up my own photography business.

That is taking off slowly but surely. 1st wedding booked for next year now and a couple of interesting projects in the pipeline (1 of which I'm VERY excited about...)

I work as a tester and bug screener for image rendering software for printers. It consists of a lot of dealing with excel sheets for performance tests and looking at printed output for errors. It's all in a unix environment though, so I've learned a lot about unix, Perl, bash, regular expressions, etc. I've made a few tools, mostly CGI scripts, in Perl and bash. It can be fun, but a lot of times it's boring. This is my first job out of college though, and I think I've done pretty well as far as that goes. I'm just wondering if I want to do this for the rest of my life though.......Hopefully I can be promoted at some point to actually working on the software.......

i would imagine being a good bug-tester would be the first step toward that.
or at least being a good quality of a person that works on the software, you know?

I work at a law firm as a legal assistant. I don't recommend it to anyone.

I keep hoping I may be able to make a transition to another career someday.

I work at a medium-sized electronics factory as the in-house embedded software guy. Though a lot of the time the things we get asked to build already have software done for them so I work on test rigs to automate the testing of stuff we've built. Every now and again though we get a hilarious situation where some customer comes up and says "help, we've forgotten how this thing we make works, and we made all our R&D people redundant to save costs, can you look at it and tell us?" so I get to do some reverse engineering, which is quite cool. I've sort of inadvertently ended up learning some great hardware hacking techniques should I ever decide to go black-hat  But if I leave this job I'll probably just end up as a house-husband doing websites on the side.
