BoC Talk

Post by Tekmosis »

Hi, everyone. I wanted to post something I've been thinking about lately. And, yes, of course it has to do with new Boards of Canada material.

I think by now, it is a no-brianer that the new album will be an apocolyptic/biblical prophecy/nuclear war/end of the world theme with all the arabic and hebrew status updates which included things such as: End of Days, Resurrection of the Dead, Future Marine, God's Kingdom Come to Earth, and Light of New Decisions. And you can't forget the mushroom cloud on Warp.net's Boards of Canada page. So since I've been away from Twoism for a while, I want to know, what do you guys think of this? If this is true, I hope there next album after this one will be a more lighter and upbeat like MHTRTC rather than Geogaddi, even though I like Geogaddi more.

I also heard a while back on here that electric guitars where going to debut in this album? Just something I saw on here before, not even a rumor, probably just a guess/a hope from a fan. But anyways, that sounds very 'un-Boards of Canada' to me and I would be extremely interested in that. But, BoC would probably find a way for it to work!

And the last thing.... (I've been wanting to get this out for a while)
As I've browsed Twoism and other BoC forums, Last.fm, and even BoC's mypsace comment section and people always seem to be begging for them to release material. I don't understand that at this point. It's been, what, 3 years since Trans Canada Highway? I don't know about you, but I've just been hungry for an UPDATE from the band! I mean, a release date of the album! I wouldn't be as pissed if they just had an update giving us some info or even an estimation of when this thing is goning to be released. For all we know, it could be released next month or next year! I think that's what upsets me more than not having an album for 4 years. It just seems like they are ignoring us. I just want a ballpark date! a month when this will be released! That will decrease the tension, for me atleast. What do you guys think?

3 years isn't really that long to wait for an album, lots of artists make albums even 5 years or more apart.
No, I won't. Please go away. I don't like you.

Of course, we're all looking forward to the new records. I look every day at the official website for something new to appear, like an announcement. So they took their pictures down, what does that mean? Probably nothing. For the campfire headphase, I think the new material was announced by warp on july 15, 2005. And then it came out three months later in the middle of october 2005. So I'm guessing roughly a three month wait from announcement time to release. Looks like it is too late for a 2009 release...

As of now, I'm more excited for the boxset of rare/unheard old tracks. That sounds inconceivably EPIC.

After hearing that 30 second excerpt of Duffy... :D

One track that I always wondered about was 'Stry Craty Bya'. It sounds pretty cool.

honestly my attention has been on other artists since trans canada came out, I don't really dwell on what boards of canada are (or aren'ts) up to. so much other good music coming out; different styles and things. it would be nice to know if boc are still a band though, or if they're done. :?

Time is truly cyclical on this forum.

*Yawns*

There will be another record. BoC haven't stopped making music and they always are. These two things MDG has said himself.

@ Tekmosis: Electric guitars are all over the campfire headphase.

Old tunes are a mouldering cardboard box of tub toys in the basement. 747 is a shiny set of golf clubs. I don't get it. All this raving for ancient tub toys. Its bonkers.

Newer isn't always better, I find myself coming back to the Old Tunes often. Something pure and made with no expectations.

Dude, What are you talking about? They used electric guitars on The Campfire Headphase.

And again, I used to think like you too. I want my news! I want my update. Well, like many people told me on here a while ago. They Do Not Owe You Anything. Their music has always been for their close family, friends and most importantly themselves. So when they give Warp the okay to update us on the New Album, we will know.

Till then, it is obvious that something new will be coming out. So hold tight and enjoy whats about to happen.

As do I. I rarely put on Trans Canada and the same goes with The Campfire...

Before they released anything they had an empty square on their discog section, indicating that a new album was soon to be announced.

i could be wrong but it looks like the tension and chatter being generated between TCH and the next release is worse than it was back before TCH was released. are we getting even less patient? i don't know, it just seemed way more fun when i was lurking here and posting on the BoC livejournal community back in 05. this feels... tired and joyless.

Cosign.

Boards are awesome to come back around to sometimes, but there is TONS of other good stuff coming out right now. Staying focused all the time on BoC makes the time go by slower waiting for their next release.

Yeah, but most of it was more acoustic sounding. I kinda meant to say/was wondering what you guys would think if they added more fast paced guitat. Like the kind of pace in 'Basefree' or 'XYZ'. That's what I meant. And THAT is what I think would be interesting to hear.

Personally, I think they've been sending subtle updates periodically for a while now via those Hebrew/Arabic messages. Many of them do point to an apocalyptic theme, so I wouldn't be surprised if one or both of the new albums focussed on that.

I think I get what Tekmosis is saying regarding electric guitars. The guitars in TCH were fairly dry...there are a lot more possibilities I'm sure they've explored. But, there's honestly no way of forecasting what the sound might be. The theme is different...I think they've clued us in here and there, though it could all be a wild goose chase.

Hey, maybe we should call this thread "Abocalypse Now"?

Hmmm. I don't really know why, but I have a feeling that this next release might not have anything to do with end times so to speak. Boards is notorious for "keeping things under wrap" and it seems that it would just be too easy if they put some arabic theme up on their my-space that anyone could translate via google.

It is MORE likely that they are throwing everyone for a loop in my opinion.
