Boards is notorious for "keeping things under wrap" and it seems that it would just be too easy if they put some arabic theme up on their my-space that anyone could translate via google.

It is MORE likely that they are throwing everyone for a loop in my opinion.
:D I hope Boc is that creative!

We are talking about Boards of Canada, so I'm almost certain that their next album will come sometime in 2012, for obvious reasons. : D

And electric guitars, in my BoC? I know that they'll find a way to make them awesome (if they do), but that just doesn't sound right given that BoC is an electronic group.

As I've browsed Twoism and other BoC forums, Last.fm, and even BoC's mypsace comment section and people always seem to be begging for them to release material. I don't understand that at this point. It's been, what, 3 years since Trans Canada Highway? I don't know about you, but I've just been hungry for an UPDATE from the band! I mean, a release date of the album! I wouldn't be as pissed if they just had an update giving us some info or even an estimation of when this thing is goning to be released. For all we know, it could be released next month or next year! I think that's what upsets me more than not having an album for 4 years. It just seems like they are ignoring us. I just want a ballpark date! a month when this will be released! That will decrease the tension, for me atleast. What do you guys think?
Yeah man as much as I am just enjoying lots of music that isn't boc and enjoying their current back catalogue and not letting this absence bother me, I do get the feeling they're ignoring the fans, as there hasn't been the slightest peep really.. but it's just a niggle I guess

You've hit a nerve there Dono, the same one that caused me to start posting.

BoC seem to be in pretty tight control of what is released/said/insinuated as far as their official image (for want of a better word) is concerned. So when I saw that some status updates on their MySpace site (is the site theirs? officially?) were initially in Hebrew, and then in Arabic, I took note. I haven't a clue about the Hebrew updates, but Arabic I know well. If they were/are throwing people for a loop, then they couldn't have picked a better group of languages. Semitic languages such as Hebrew and Arabic do not machine translate well at all. You can translate basic single items easily, like a dictionary would, but string a phrase together and it goes wild. It just doesn't work in an A + B = precise meaning way. Often the reverse English translation through an online translator results in a different Arabic phrase. The same can be true for some European language translations as well, although less frequently.

Maybe it is a loop they're throwing though. It is possible to argue a translation for hours, and they might well be playing on the fact that this is the case.

This is where I'd like to include the original post from Tekmosis as a quote, so I'll just cut and paste it below.

"...with all the arabic and hebrew status updates which included things such as: End of Days, Resurrection of the Dead, Future Marine, God's Kingdom Come to Earth, and Light of New Decisions."

I can only comment on the "Light of new decisions" as I have the Arabic for that. This translation is incorrect. There was also a recent status update which mentioned "to make recordings" (can't find the post right now in Arabic), but whilst the translation might seem to make sense, the Arabic wasn't quite right. It didn't make grammatical sense really, and wasn't a natural Arabic phrase. You make a good point Dono that BoC could just be playing on the whole thing as a decoy, but have they done this in the past i.e officially, as opposed to the Red Moon thing (or was that official...excuse my ignorance) which drew a lot of interest on here, but which was never really resolved? Typing this, maybe that's the point after all.

Anyway, Tekmosis...can you please point me to the Arabic phrases that you have quoted the translations for. It's hard to search the forum in Arabic, so I'm hoping you/anyone else can remember the threads they appeared in. I'd be a bit disappointed if BoC were using crappy Google language tools to keep us entertained, but maybe whoever runs their MySpace site got bored.

Cheers!

Newer isn't always better, I find myself coming back to the Old Tunes often. Something pure and made with no expectations.
the "old tunes" are absolute garbage.

Hey maybe the apocalypse theme has more to do with this being the end of Boards of Canada releasing material rather than the usal apocalypse themes we see so often.
A clearance in a wooded area, you startle a deer, it runs into the pines. Vast turquoise lakes and icy rivers, crisp mountain air. A bald eagle soars above. The distant sound of a chainsaw. Redwood smoke

actually, BoC is directly connected to our reality, so any metaphoric references will arise in our dimension shortly...

so, bring on the new album!

That would be a very pretentious way of announcing it...

Well... Maybe if we had some sort of BOXSET it would be just delightful to hear some of those interesting, mysterious early works... hmmm, if only.

how much expectation is heaped upon the old tunes? i wanna box set i wanna box set. so much incredible whining. the way I see it, a number of stellar and mature conceptual works may have been delayed just so everyone can hear these directionless jams--again!

I can't afford a boxset, but I'd like to hear some unreleased tracks anyway.
