It's ok, I've read the topic and I see what happened. I don't want to point any finger, it is just that "we" at twoism aren't used to topics/discussions like this.
There usually is a pretty pleasant association here and I think that's what makes Twoism different to other well known messageboards. I guess I can speak for the maturity that we'd like to keep it that way.

it's ok, i think i'll make a point of not posting in future at all. this has left a rather sour taste. i still have no idea how people could misconstrue my original post as being one trying to hurry the release of an album.

I completely agree. Warp is just fine (signing more commercial artists then ever) and selling better than ever.

I mean come on !!! (Chk Chk Chk), Grizzly Bear (playing on Letterman and Leno), Maximo Park, Battles etc etc all shit bands except for maybe Grizzly Bear...

Its all bullshit that Warp is going under.

Boards Of Canada will keep releasing albums on their own or Warp no worries, maybe mdg could fill us in.

Except Battles is good, unique, and uses old electronic equipment in interesting new ways. Perfect fit for Warp and I really don't understand how anyone could object to them joining the roster. If their music didn't involve live instruments, people would label it "IDM" without hesitation.

I don't think BoC will quit releasing music. I think one of the ways they've been dealing with piracy is licensing their music to TV shows and things like that to earn a little money. I've heard Dayvan Cowboy on a few different shows. Warp won't go out of business quite so soon, I think. If times get really tough, they have enough of a cult following to just downsize a bit and press limited copies that sell very fast, sort of like what Rephlex has done. Rephlex's site can be hosted on a floppy disc, but people buy their records like mad.

Anyhoo, Boc, Warp, Battles, who cares, it's music. I love music, i love listening, dancing, playing and creating it. Anyone who does it, does it for the love of it, not for money, though if you can get paid to do it, then fair play.

Sure, Boc haven't released anything in a while and so what ? I buy their music cos i love listening to it, because they're great musicians and artists. Itd be sad if they didn't release anything, but the fact is they will and we'll all be overjoyed when they do...

There's more to life than hanging on waiting for a BoC release...

Yeah but mdg just gives you info that you could guess or assume yourself. What makes him semi-legit is the fact he doesn't spread obnoxious false-hoods. But any information we get from the inside seems to be just as vague as our imaginations in respect to the future of the band.

since Boards of Canada have openly shown their disdain for the internet in the past, i really don't think they would embrace digital distribution in the same way that Reznor has. ok, the internet presence of Boards of Canada has improved somewhat with the intermittent cryptic clues from our dear mdg, but on the whole i think that BoC would go for option 2, simply because their whole stance on music has been that they make it for their own enjoyment, and for the enjoyment of people close to them. i think they have more integrity than to bow to the pressures of a music industry going under, and i think they would much prefer to sink back into the obscurity whence they came.

What happened to the stores will also happen to the labels I guess. Until back in the 70s and early 80s there were a lot of small self-employed stores (here in Holland). The big companies took over the role of the small ones and were more profitable in the end as they offered a whole range of stuff under 1 roof, in stead of some specialities scattered around town. The huge companies could handle a much lower margin of profit as they sold more of each individual product. The small self-employed shops couldn't compete so they had to close their doors as there wasn't much money made anymore.

I guess this is also happening to the music industry. A handful of small specialized labels with a good reputation will survive, while most others will be swallowed by the bigger ones.
