Anyone seen this from Pitchfork?

"It might be a little surprising to learn that current speculation revolves around VHS Head actually being a pseudonym-cloaked member of Boards of Canada, so a few more listens might be in order here." (edit: VHS Head is on Skam - though that's mostly irrelevant these days)

Regardless of who this really is, I'm enjoying it. And if someone could quash the speculation I can see this thread moving to This Random Sound.

Not hearing the BoC-ness either, Skam connection or not. That being said I just bought the EP on iTunes, it's pretty fucking great in itself.

I can't see this being one of the Sandisons but it's pretty damn funky! Sounds a lot like Jackson as Ae said.

i had no idea about this BoC/VHS Head speculation. Either way, I've been loving this EP since it came out. I see no reason why this couldnt be a sandison. it doesnt sound anything like BoC but that's probably the point. i've never really known pitchfork to spread faulty information. they said the same sort of thing when the tuss came out. i already loved VHS Head, but now i think im gonna have to listen even closer. I hope theres more from this guy.

Well the music is great and I'll certainly be buying this. However, no surprise, in Boomkat's review... "just a hint of BoC style nostalgia"...

electronic music will never escape the impact BoC have made. it's officially everywhere. i wouldn't say it makes me "sad", but it's certainly ... i don't know, a bit of a disappointment every time i see someone desperately resort to BoC to point at nostalgia.

my point is: what if someone tried to review a BoC album that way? "Uh, well, it sounds a lot like Boards of Canada, with plenty of stylistic nods to BoC." GET CREATIVE PEOPLE.

Well, I did see it but decided to let this one go because it's more about the artist VHS Head and not about the release.
We've had more topics where the artist in general is discussed rather than a specific release.

To me, 'Rent Responsibly' sounds a lot like Old Tunes 2-era BoC. At least the melodics and samples.

yeah i was looking around at his myspace page a couple of weeks ago. but myspace players dont work for me any more. fuck!

The more I listen to Video Club the more I love it. I hate that its only like 15 minutes long! I'd love for it to be BoC, that would be so cool. But I just dont think it is. And I dont really get why pitchfork's peeps speculate that it is. But who knows.
To me it really sounds like B1 by Gescom on A1-D1, right down to the movie samples ("time to die" and "leonard" bladerunner/memento) and cut up beats and what not. any info on kris blacow or his other projects?

I never gave jackson and his computer band a chance because I thought the name was stupid. But if it sounds anything like this, then I guess I'll have to give it a shot!

what i'm saying. even 'reputible' sources are just dropping BoC's name wherever they want now. it's like the fanism has crept into everyone's deep subconscious even if they never think to demonstrate it and come post on a fan forum. for all this hype about BoC and how great they are at reminding us of nostalgic stuff, practically nobody is paying any attention to the actual stuff BoC supposedly remind us of. there's more to this whole thing than music coming from two guys Scotland... hell with it.

Definitely sounds like him. Pitchfork should be more careful.

This is what's wrong with modern media...people referencing references that come from nowhere. Pundits interviewing pundits instead of field reporters. People citing a Wikipedia article that cites itself...it's all cyclical and self-referential; a closed loop of rumors and misinformation.
