Great covers so far!! Saw that commodore piece before. The "Twoism" clip is real inspiring, though I had that all parts worked out already, as well as "Corsair" and "Farewell Fire"[/url]

Really, really, really good job! You got the pad sound down perfect. Not a complaint by any means, but I've listened to real acoustic drums for too long for my ears to be pleased with ANY of these programs or drum machines. But I will say great programming though. I certainly couldn't do it. LOL

Actually, they first drum is live drum samples, picked apart and re-sampled, the second drum is a machine with a hip hop kit that I played in.

The pad is a basic dual osc synth I programmed to get as close as I could. I added a dual osc ring shifter, chorus, as well as a custom reverb design and some tape delay. I also worked with a little clip distortion, which did wonders.

The part i am not 100% happy with is the percussion at the moment. I'm thinking about going to a live hand drum (congos/d'jimbe) and seeing how that sounds.

Yeah but the high hat and drums that they sampled or resampled were tigfhtly recorded in a small room with a nice hit hat sound and a nice snare sound. It sounds like a whole lot of trouble to sample and resample when you can just do a live take like they did with Dawn Chorus. I'm a stickler for some real drums other wise the music comes off too robotioc with everyone running to the drum samples and drum machines set to high BPM's.

Not to get into an argument with you because the last time I asked someone what they meant be D2 they told me it was D and the second octave, which had me all confused since he didn't know an instrument. LOL But I think there are only 3 chords involved and none of them 6 note chords, but maybe you did yours a different way.

Well of course that would be awesome, however I for one do not have a drum room with a high end kit set up. I think we might all love that.

Hmm, sampling is what I like to do. It gives you 100% control over it. You can do some really neat stuff. Plus, I am pretty sure BoC samples just about everything, if not everything.

Real drums always have a better sound dry, but when you're sampling and effecting that much, you can actually get some very good results a lot of the time. It won't replace it, by any means but it all depends on what sound you're going for. And, the high BPM, that's just the programmer, I am with you in the slower downtempo stuff.

Oh man thats so awesome. All I think it needs is that little sample that comes in at the 2nd melody. The kind of Hi-pitched hip hop sample of like horns or something. Other than that it was perfect. I enjoyed listening very much. I'd love to hear you cover something else.

Any chance you could tell us how you created your synth line?

Here's basically how I did the synth line. It's pretty simple actually. I just took a basic dual osc subtractive synth (the ES1 in Logic) and used a square wave with a cutoff around 40%, and resonance around 20%, I set the mod envelope to a -5ms decay on the cutoff, and had a LFO running on a triangle wave syncing the pulse width at around a quarter note. Thats about it for the synth. I added some reverb, clip distortion, ring-shifter, chorus, phaser, and tape delay effects throughout, and then ran the entire thing through a very low mix of tape delay and a little EQ'ing.
