Ableton Live noob question...
Hiya, I just had a quick question about Ableton Live and controllers. I currently have a midi keyboard and a pad control that I am trying to assign to two different tracks. How do I do this? ( I wanted to have a kind of jam session with a friend). Anyone know how to accomplish this?
You havent said what kind of interface they both use. USB or 5pin MIDI?
Assuming that you can plug them both in at the same time then you need to select them to work with ableton. To do this open ableton, and select, option->preferences->MIDI then set "track" on for each input device you want.
Then you need to look at both controlers and select what MIDI channel you want them to run on and set them to something you know (each device, a different channel). If they are both USB then you dont realy need to do this step, only if them are both connected by 5pin MIDI.
If they are both USB then just create 2 midi tracks and set "Input From" to each controler.
If they are Daisy chained on 5pin MIDI, then set "Input From" to the name of your midi input (probably what your soundcard is called) and select the channel you set for each device earlier.
Hope that helps you some way
