Hi Scores Ep Discussion

Post by Derail »

To take everyone's impatient minds off the new album, lets talk about the Hi Scores Ep, I searched this forum and did'nt find a topic anywhere about it. What's everyone's favorite track? It seems Everything You Do Is A Balloon always seems to overshadow the track ''Hi Scores". I love the drums and synth line on this track, but no one ever seems to talk about it. I think it has to be my favorite on the ep, closely followed by EYDIAB.

I think I could listen to that sad little intro on the 1st minute of EYDIAB forever, it fucking moves me everytime I hear it.

I don't know why, but Nlogax was always a fun one...also June 9th. I just absolutely love how they can transition their music so it turns out so different than how it began..in a good way. :)

I love the way the intro on EYDIAB draws you in and then just hits you with the sucker punch of the main thrust of the track. The first listen just stopped me in my tracks and I've never forgotten that moment.

My other favourite has always been "Seeya Later" with it's slow drawl beat and otherworldly keyboard noodling.

According to my ipod, the track "Hi Scores" is my most listened to track out of the nearly 2500 on the damn thing, so I must like it a lot. In fact I really like the whole EP a lot. There are number of good moments including "nlogax" and "june 9th." I think one thing that makes "EYDIAB" so great is that it is a great closer to the album. It seems to take you from the beginning of the end to the very end in a rather brilliant way. My only gripe with the EP is that there is a bit of overlapping with "Turqoise Hexagon Sun" and "Seeya Later" both appearing on other albums/eps. Beyond that, hooray for Hi Scores!

I think June 9th is a classic, but would have to agree that EYDIAB is the standout track...really for the intro and the way it kicks in. It's used on the "Morvern Caller" soundtrack as well, but quite subtly.

I actually hadn't heard the Hi Scores EP until just last night (I had been trying to get the cd on Amazon, but they delayed my order for over two months...I ended up downloading it on Bleep.)

I forget where I read it, but somewhere it said that EYDIAB is the empyreal BOC track. For what I know to be BOC, I have to agree. Everything I like about them somehow comes together with this track.

I agree. I only recently got hold of Hi Scores (had to mailorder it from Sydney!) and was amazed how good it was. Previously I thought IABPOITC was peerless as an EP, but Hi Scores is so varied and contains so many BoC virtues I've changed my mind.

EYDIAB has to be one of my favorites. "Hi Scores" is also really nice. EYDIAB takes you by surprise and is more evocative and cinematic than "Hi Scores" in my humble opinion. Did you see the film Morvan Collar? "nlogax" is a devious little cut. and "see ya later" has bass and drums i never want t o end.
