Earthbound wrote:After 8 weeks of rest our cat Jefta didn't recover from it's injuries, and still was in a lot of pain. The fractures didn't heal at all..
The only option left was to amputate his leg.. And even after that, the changes of him recovering from his fractures in his hip joint were slim. My wife and I had a long talk about it together ,and with the vet, and we decided to let him go.. It was one of the hardest decision I ever made..
Jefta was a proud male cat, a hunter, who brought us home so many killed little animals (frogs, mice, dragonflies), to show his affection. Jefta was outside 90 % of the time, drifting. It was killing to see him in so much pain, and not being able to move. Amputating his leg, with slim changes of recovering, and with a long recovering time after this surgery combined with the already 8 weeks of recovery and pain eventually made us decide this. The last 2 weeks of his life, Jefta was depressed, sad, and 3 legs would made him even more sad. He was only 4 years old, way to young. But it was time to make an end to his pain. This was the only fair option..
This monday, he got the fatal injection at the vet. He went peacefull, I stayed with him till the end. It was so emotional, so painfull. I feel so broken, so lost, so empty without him. It's unbelievalbe how much I got attached to him. My wife and I shed so many tears these days. We're both so sad. When will this pain get any easier to deal with?
Jefta, rest in peace boy. You can't be missed..

very very sorry to hear about Jefta, Earthbound. but i can tell you that it does get better. what happens is thoughts of your kitty's death stop assailing you all the time, but what doesn't happen is that they stop feeling bad when you do think of them. however, in time (i haven't yet reached this point with Percy), you begin to appreciate the life you had with him more than the fact that he's dead. it's all to do with your perspective in time. i spend most of my days not fretting over Percy's death or how I miss him, but it still hurts to think about it when I choose to. i don't know, that's just where i am about it.
Chuck, that kitten sounds like the one my co-worker got recently. i gave him a ride back to his place from work a few weeks ago to meet it, and it was a teeny little package of dynamite. very small kitten, could pick it up in one hand, but already just leaping off the furniture and chasing and attacking objects and peoples' clothing every second of every minute. my coworker came into work a few days later after the kitty had woken him up by going postal with its claws on his chest (where it had been sleeping) and jumping off him, and he exclaimed "that cat's a little terrorist!" and i laughed my ass off, it's a perfect description.

I tend to have dreams involving my old cats, pretty much on a weekly basis. In the dreams, it's like I'm the only one who notices that they've come back to life, and everyone else is ignoring them. Dunno if this sounds silly, but i always wonder whether it's a sign to say that they are alright?
I miss my cats terribly, we have a dog now, who i love dearly, but c'mon, Cats are better!
Here is a picture of the last cat i had, she was called Libby (Libstine was her nickname

And about that dreaming.. I have the exact same thing!! The only difference is that I don't have this dream that often any more. It's about the cat I grew up with at my parents. She died 7 years ago. But I dreamt about her very often. I saw her, she curling up to me. Nobody noticed her but me. In time this dream came less often, but I still have it sometimes.
Yeah, I believe too that it can be a sign that they're allright.
I haven't dreamt about Jefta yet. Don't know if it will happen. But somehow it's like his sister is trying to tell us he's allright (yeah I know how silly this sounds
@ Turquoise. Thanks for the support bro. It still hurts, but not that much as a week ago. You're right. It needs time. The sadness won't go away for a long time to come I guess. But it is managable now. And it helps, that we both are more and more convinced we made the right choice. It will take time, but I think I will in time most of all appreciate the moments I had with him over the sorrow. Thanks again mate.
Yeah, I feel the exact same way as you do about animals. I hope you guys feel better. Peace!Earthbound wrote:Thanks Polar!
Sorry to hear you guys got through the same thing.
Although there will be always times when we have to say goodbye to these lovely creatures, it doesn't weigh up to positive part of it.
The friendship between animals (in my case cats) is very special and beautiful.
And yeah, I have a lot of pictures and video's too. It's hard to look at them right now, but I think it will be easier the next months.

I was just reading all this again because of Letter P's related topic.
Just wanted to tell you guys I dreamt about Jefta a couple of days after he got the fatal injection. He was sort of showing me all his legs, and was moving smoothly. It was like he was sort of telling me he wasn't in pain anymore, and that he could use all of his legs again, which meant he was completely happy.
I know it's just a dream, but it really helped me to find my peace in my sorrow and pain. I believe he's in a better, happy place now..

i don't know what to really make of what i experienced, but sometime around the end of last year, i think Percy may have visited me.
i was sitting at my adjacent computer in my room, with the door shut and the windows closed, and out of nowhere, as i was sitting there looking -almost- right at it, a baggie containing a tuft of Percy's fur that the vet sent back after he was cremated, fell unexpectedly off the top of my speaker and onto a clay bowl i made myself as a child.
at first i was just shocked, and intensely weirded out, and the hairs on the back of my neck rose. i checked the speaker for vibrations and there weren't any. i checked the baggie's weight and it couldn't have wafted up in a tiny draft from the air vent. i slid the baggie off the speaker again several times to try to get it to land on the bowl again, which is about 5 inches away from the speaker. it never came anywhere near the bowl, it just fell flat.
it may have been... i don't know. i don't really want to know the answer. it's not so important. maybe it happened through some simple trick of physics, but that's not the point. the point is it happened, right there as i was looking at it, i was meant to see it.

Someday I'd sure like to - maybe when I have a full-time job and am out of school and all that. My life is a little too hectic right now to assure that I could pay all the lovin' attention a kitty needs.TheSilenceEchoes wrote:that sucks =[ are you going get a new cat?turquoise70 wrote:Unfortunately Percy's brother Max has passed away as well - last November, actually.
