Music Suggestions For A Party :
Come on fellow Travellers, I have been charged with making a compilation CD of 'accessible' music for a female friends birthday bash this coming weekend. Please bear in mind that these are not psychonaughts or travellers and their music knowledge probably extends only to the big hits and well known music but I still want some style in there, for my own ego's sake.
I have a few Motown tracks, Elvis, The Big Bopper to start off with but moving through the decades to the Beatles and Blondie and some MGMT (I know) ....
If you had to pick some accessible music for persons not to up to speed on their music what would you pick? Any suggestions welcome and thank you.
Quite frankly I'd love to put on Dave Clarke World Service at volume 11 for the entirety of the party but I don't think it would go do too well at the host's house.
Please, suggestions. I'm stuck when it comes to average music.
Thank you.

I did that at hippies parties a few times. Just played sts9 or some psytrance and that was that.jonnyjj74 wrote:MGMT
I've DJ'd electronic music for a few college parties, and honestly if it wasn't Daft Punk it seemed to baffle 90% of the people. Clark got a few heads moving, but that was about it.

Prince usually works. Your crowd might not like punk era stuff but surely no-one can be unmoved by Teenage Kicks by the Undertones, or Blitzkreig Bop by The Ramones. And a party which does not respond to Sly & The Family Stone cannot legally be called a party.
A little more recent: Rez by Underworld, or Remember Me by Blue Boy. I'm thinking of doing something similar at the moment and I'm picking out stuff like Hoping by Louie Austen (Herbert mix) and Losing My Edge by LCD Soundsystem. Make people smile hopefully.
Get some pals round, get tanked up and try out some records. If they dance the record is in, if they don't then drop it.

Nice suggestions Observation. Prince is on the mix so far, it's hard having to pick tracks I think other people might like. I could have a party on my own all night but for persons not into their music (they are probably expecting Lady Gaga ffs) I'm findning it difficult to get a happy medium.
Disclaimer :
I only know one person at this party, her birthday.
I wouldn't be mates with anyone who listens to Lady GafuckinGa
Cheers for the suggestions.

I mixed for a party in college/junior year, it was supposed to be a small thing but ended up 400 people all rocking the entire place. Huge success, and mostly Daft and Chemical Brothers--everyone was really happy..jonnyjj74 wrote:MGMT
