heres a quick mini review, track by track:

Into the Rainbow Vein: starts off with a pitter patter drum beat, and then lays in with stellar synths that repeat for about a minute.

Chromaky Dreamcoat: again with the star-like synths, then a british man talking over, lots of echoing, then a simple hip-hop like drum beat that sounds fuzzed over. then a quicker rattling drum over that. very creepy track, yet beautiful. now the bass comes in. wow amazing. and now some more voice samples over it. very robo-spacy sounding "i was kinda on my own" - child like "i was just like... anyway", some mysterious synths, the "i was kinda on my own repeats." all drums fade out, leaving the synths with the echoing voices to fade out aswell.

Satellite Anthem Icarus: reverse, choppy piano-synths, almost like flutes with some background noise, like sticks moving around in the background. the paino notes are teasing eachother, now some echos. very spacey - beautiful and simple.

Peacock tail: some water guzzling sounding sample, now a drum beat with a harpisochord-like notes over it. like child-hip hop break beats. drum and bass.

Dayvan Cowboy: bursting shines and crackles, static, then a few teasing synths, very computer/insect feeling.

A moment of clarity: a lot more calming, slow, computery, with a block and cymbal-like drum, now the regular drum kit comes in. very different from other BOC. now an auroa-like synth moving through the left and right channels.

'84 Pontiac Dream: overwhelming surges of heavy cloudy synths, repeating and echoing, leaving and then coming back. a lot grainy-er than the rest. more old school BOC.

Sherbert head: very loungy- feeling in hte beginning then some awkward synths, then answered again by drums and then silence. very electric-loungy feel, drum and bass and synthy. towards the end of the track, feels more like BOC.

Oscar see through red eye: some kind of organ synth with little bleeps and insect running-like noises everywhere.

Ataronchronon: very old BOC feeling. some kind of sample with good drum over it. great surges through it. drums slow down toward the end.

Hey saturday sun: sounds like a tape moving through reels very quickly. synths on top of it, very beautiful melody, echoes

constants are changing: bubbling sounding deep synth, creaking synths lightening. mum-like distortion over it.

slow this bird down: harmonica-like beginning / pipes, breaking, rebuilding,

tears from the compound eye: static, noises, synths underneath with some backwards talking / breathing samples

farewell fire: very long, heavy track

sorry i fell off at the end. i have had very little sleep.

overall, in comparison with other BOC, this seems "newer". the synths/samples are less grainy and more bright sounding. also, there is much more of a drum and bass feeling, similar to heavy Aphex Twin, but not as quick and sharp as him. also BOC is using a more múm-like ambiance background noises.

in all. i am somewhat dissapointed with the album.i have trouble believing that this is a legit copy. i really hope this is not the real thing.

as a huge fan of songs like "5-9-78" "Sixtyniner" and "Magic Teens", this album is not even close.
i am really not digging this album.

i guess it just has to grow on me.

Thanks for the review but I'm definitely waiting until the authentic retail version is in the shops ...so much of what is "out there" can be fake... :D

thanks a lot (NOT). who do you expect to be waiting for this? this is a boards of canada forum. I would assume people here BUY their releases, not download possible fakes let alone read stupid reviews of possible fakes.

I dl'ed Peacock Tail and it's not boc. According to the id3 tags its real name is "Passenger of Shit - Eat My Dick Vomit" and the music is a bit like venetian snares. So I guess it's somekind of a 'funny' joke.

Don't know if this is the same one you got though.

Hear hear...must be patient about it ; it sucks that people bother to construct fake versions but there we go!

I'm all about preordering the vinyl and hearing it for myself on my turntable. I don't think warp is going to let this one out before it's officially released. They did a damn good job keeping quiet until a few weeks ago about the entire album. I don't think they are sending out a bunch of copies to reviewers so they can get some PR to help the album sell, which is how a number of albums come up on SLSK or whatnot. It's great to get excited about an album, but it's absurd to actually think this leaked copy is for real. Just listen to it, what a piece of crap!

it sucks that people can't yet tell the difference between what's real and what's not, and then go to great lengths to review the entire thing track by track...

but what really sucks is that even though i want to know nothing about it until i hear it, i still can't stop myself from reading every real or unreal detail.
