New Boreal Network Site Online

Hi Twoism, just popping in to say the new Boreal Network site, which i've been working on off-and-on for the past couple of months, is now online. Please enjoy and give me some feedbacks, but preferably the good kind.

dude thank you! i am glad to hear it is both concise and easy to navigate. those are things i was trying to keep in mind with its conception. i hope the audio player is working for everyone.

I don't get the "about" page. It states your name and city and a disconnected image. It seems as though you don't even want one, which is perplexing. I like that the site is simple.

On my Mac in Safari (4.0.4) nothing is visible on the Discography page except the title and the "Click an album cover on the right..." text.

Works fine in Firefox though...

Nice work!

Nice background picture, simple setup which imo is a good thing.
The myspace button is out of place though, it links offsite while all the others don't. The myspace link in the contact section, together with all the other url's should been placed in a link section. In the contact section you should put a contact form or email or something. Besided this technical twaddle the site really is great!

The truth about that is, I've never written - or been given - a description for Boreal Network that I like. If I go super straightforward and just say, I started writing music around 2002 and started releasing it around 2006, etc. that could work but that kind of sucks all the fantasy and imagery out of it. It's a work in progress, though. I'll add to it if I can ever work out a palatable way of doing so. For now I think it says all it needs to.

Crap! Cross-browser compatibility is something I'd love to strive for. I don't have a Mac so I'll have to wait till my classes start and I can check it out on the Macs at school and see what's wrong with it. I wonder why it does that. Thanks for mentioning it though!

Yeah, that's fair. I thought of breaking the Contact page into a Contact and a Links page, but I didn't want to add another navigation button. As I said, the site is open for development and changes, so maybe in the future I will do that.

Thanks for your feedback guys! I need to hear these things cause when (hopefully) I'm designing sites for other people, and not just my own personal music site, their input is going to count before mine.

for some reason, none of the text displays properly in firefox. i have the fonts from your stylesheet, so beats me.

i like the clean navigation. represents well. the audio player is awesome, especially when i press play.

great website man...only thing is in discog page doesn't appear in Chrome or Firefox (all i get is a blank spot) works perfectly in internet exlorer

OK, this was bugging me so I looked into it a bit -

I fixed your Discog page problem in Safari, here are the details:

At around line 384 you had overflow style parameters inline in the div. Since your DOCTYPE is xhtml this is not allowed. The fix is to put the overflow style in the local style section at the top of the page. (gotta show this as an image because the forum BBcode won't let me put the div code in, even with code tags...)

That's it - tested in Safari and Firefox on the Mac - IE6 on the PC (sorry, didn't have a machine with IE7 & 8 lying around). BTW: It fixes the problem on IE6 PC as well.

Hope this helps...

Dude, rockage! Thanks so much for the in-depth help. Are you on Doctype by any chance?

However, minor technical point, shouldn't that style declaration that's to go in the Head section be #rightcolumn, not .rightcolumn? Just clarifying to make sure I understand we're still treating it as an ID tag.

Try browsershots.org to see your site in a million different browsers, etc. It can be very helpful if you don't have access to a mac for example. Anyway, the site looks great on my Firefox 3 at 1280x800. Cool beans.

It doesn't work as an ID with the #, I guess that's because the overflow parameter isn't allowed in an ID but only in a class when validating in xhtml?

well, if you're declaring it as .rightcolumn in the style sheet, you're identifying it as a class, that's what the '.' means, so you should have rightcolumn be the class of the div - you can give it both an id and a class of "rightcolumn" if you want, that works, but i just figured since it was the only rightcolumn on the page, semantically it would work better to have it as an individual id and not as a recurring class.

but i am pretty sure the 'overflow' CSS attribute can be assigned to any block level html element that contains content.
