the first track i heard was Roybgiv - on a CD given away with the NME around '98 i think - the CD was full of bland indie which NME was hyping at the time but that track just stood out ahead of the rest, listened to it dozens of times - bought MHTRTC the next day on the strength of that, i rarely buy a record on the strength of one track. i remember Telephasic Workshop really blowing me away on first listen.

Ah, I remember clearly, a lovely summer's day in my friend's attic smoking peach shisha pipe and then it hit me. Never had i heard such a phat/melancholy ratio been nailed so lushly. Gonna put Twoism on now
It was An Eagle In Your Mind, which played out an edition of BBC Radio 3's Mixing It programme. Rather like the fact that I first heard boc on Radio 3, though it was a bit odd hearing the announcer read out the name of the artist and track with the same clipped tones normally reserved for Bach and his pals and gals.
The first BoC I ever heard was a sample of Wildlife Analysis or An Eagle In Your Mind on Amazon.com in February 2002 (first full length track would have been Ready Lets Go).
I kept seeing the name Boards of Canada mentioned on the Joyrex forums but didn't investigate further because for some reason their name made me think they were a Canadian hardcore punk band (!) and I wasn't into that sort of music back then (same thing happened with Burial, kept seeing the name everywhere but didn't listen because I thought it was a death metal band, lol).
When Joyrex got his copy of Geogaddi he opened a thread where he posted his thoughts as he listened to the record for the first time. His exceptional reaction prompted me to see what all the fuss was about this Boards of Canada. I searched Amazon and listened to some samples off MHTRTC and couldn't believe what I was hearing (in a good way, of course!). I bought Geogaddi not long after that...

lol, I listen to venetian snares all the time and my girlfriend refuses to listen to any of his songs because the first one she heard was "all the children are dead" and now she says that his music is too scary

Yeah...I remeber I played some BoC for one of my friends once, and he told me that he liked the concept of "washing machine noise" music (?) but that the music didn't have enough movement.
It just goes to show that you haven't really listened to BoC until you have cranked up the volume really really loud, and just listen to the sound waves wash over you.
I have to admit though, even though that friend is a good friend that I have known for years, I was pretty angry when he said that BoC was "washing machine noise".

I remember quite clearly. It was Aquarius, on a chillout music compilation. When I first heard it, I thought it wasnt that good. Rather weird. But then I listened to it more and it grew on me. Since then, I havent looked back
I think it was either Turquoise Hexagon Sun, iabpotc, or Julie and Candy or Alpha and Omega.. those songs would come on the ambient/chill satellite tv radio station like 6 years ago or something(still do i'd imagine). I remember first downloading a bunch of random songs by them off limewire(ew) soon after first hearing them.. 1969 blew me A-way. back then i used to always be stoned when listening to the radio late at night and thats when i formed a stoned relationship with BOC. i miss that..

It was in my grandparents room nearly 2 years ago, I remember checking out MHTRTC for the first time and putting on "Wildlife Analysis" and just being a bit shocked that I had never found any music that sounded like this before.

hey Fredd-E you have this section in bocpages-photos called "abstract". is this just an unsorted bunch? There are official and non-official files in there.
these are bogus/fan art
and in the "photography" section you have some fan-art mixed up in there (photos 26-28,33). photo 25 has no direct relationship to BOC. 26-27 I made about 1000 years ago for mix CDs, you can delete those.
i would bet that photo 3 is a fan photo as well, probably just a show and tell that got mixed up over the years.
