by the time aphex twin and bola and boc all see their next records released, there will already be so many Saw sequels that we will have to scrape them off our windshields before we get in the car to drive to the record store and buy them. Life is not fair.

What about if they both did actually move to NZ and set up there? That would take a bit of time... (Do we believe the facebook location which says NZ as location?).

It's in an interview somewhere... Says one of them is moving to New Zealand with his wife and kid, and the other is moving to Hong Kong with his girlfriend. I think I have that right, though I'm not sure which particular interview it was in though.

The real reason is that the Sandison brothers have ADHD, have started about 600 tracks, but haven't had the attention span to finish a single one. The obvious solution would be a Ritalyn, or Adderal prescription, but they are also Scientologists, and such drugs are against their beliefs, which creates quite a conundrum. But Xenu's favor is shining upon them, and he will zap a new album into existence in due time.

"Sandison once lived in London for a couple of years; they've lived in Edinburgh itself and, when they decide to take a break from their recording (and each other) to spend time with their partners, they're off travelling on the other side of the world -- Sandison mentions recent trips to France, Australia and New Zealand (where he's thinking of moving), while Eoin's considering a new life in Hong Kong with his Chinese girlfriend. Those are decisions still to be made, as their current live/work set-up is working well for them. "This whole project has come about with us living on the outskirts of Edinburgh," he says, "and for the last two decades we've been working on it from here, and we've had no reason to want to relocate to the city or to the south or anything, it's as simple as that. In fact, we actually find to some extent this so-called hermetic bubble that we live in is actually making it a lot easier for us to do our thing and not feel any urge to make it DJ friendly, or make it work for a certain social or club environment."

What is happening is that BOC are building a new reel to reel for the last stage of the mastering. The reel to reel is made out of crackers (which are quite dry and brittle, making them difficult to work with), and the tape head is made out of cheese (which obviously melts when it gets hot, so you only have one chance to get the master down). Because BOC are purists, they are not buying crackers from a shop, oh no, they are making them from scratch, by hand. Respect to them for that. Also, they are making their own cheese; it is a mature Scottish cheddar, and the process can't be rushed, or you end up with a young tasting cheese, which will NOT DO for savoury reel to reel construction (and I'm sure we've all made THAT mistake in our previous experiments, I know I have).
I expect too, that BOC will be deploying the 'magic antler' method of compression, which involves wearing a tailor made stag suit with brightly coloured antlers, and trampolining upon the finished master. Then, at midnight, the antlers turn into a pink 'my little pony', which you MUST ride like a racing jockey to a small Mexican farm which specializes in growing organic nachos hydroponically (of course - it wouldn't make sense otherwise, would it?). If you are either a minute late, or early upon arriving at the Mexican farm, the natives will throw rice crispies at you, and your finished master will immediately turn into the theme tune to the Six Million Dollar Man played on gazoos. Can you imagine the shame of returning to your studio, covered in rice crispies riding on a shitty little pink plastic horse with a man-made fibre mane only to present a bad redux of the Six Million Dollar Man theme played on inappropriate instruments to the record company? How can anyone be blamed for avoiding such a situation? If the album hasn't come out by next year, I will write an even dafter post than this to keep us all going!

Still not buying any of the arguments being thrown out here. This isn't comparable to a major movie where you avoid a same weekend release - if anything the more quality selections you have out the better. At $15 a pop we're not talking automobile sales either, so having near simultaneous releases like Autechre and BoC would be complimentary to each other. For that matter anything more than a month or two before and after the Warp20 strikes me as a stretch of logic.

I'm on record elsewhere as being a disbeliever of the MDG character so I won't sidetrack us with that discussion here.

If anything, maybe its just that listening to the nostalgic music of BoC is turning into an act of a nostalgia in itself, and the inherent paradox is driving them insane. That's what its getting to feel like to me anyway.

That's a very, very interesting idea. Ive had a sort of feeling like this too and Its why I said in the other thread that I think they are having to make some kind of "mutation" because they've nearly exhausted all resources within their musical paradigm. The need a new set of characteristics which doesn't conflict, but intertwines with the old set.

MDG could very well be a phony, but if he is a phony hes a very disciplined one. Phonies usually want to start hype or get attention and hes the opposite of that so that's why I have a little faith in the guy.

One question that I'd like him to answer though is why the photos were taken off of the site. I just can't see any point to doing that

I feel like right now we could just wait an eternity for a new album and eventually this forum would dry out like a ghost town.

Do you really think Aesthetics and me would make a phony MDG into a moderator? We have our perfectly valid reasons to trust him for 300%.

Yes, I agree, nostalgia isn't what it used to be. In fact, maybe it never was.
I still stick by my magic antler / savoury reel to reel theory. It is just as likely to be true as anyone else's conjecture!
Cheers,
Will

A couple of great points there.

This may be well off, and I'm obviously not as in the know as some other people on this board, but is it possible MDG could be the sandisons themselves? Just sayin..

Yeah, we've speculated on this before. I'm inclined to take MDG at face value though - ie. he's Mark Garrett and not BOC. Mind you, what do I know?!?
