Response to a tiff with an ex-friend, some four years too late:

Saying science is better than philosophy because it "gets things done and helps people" is like saying architecture is better than mathematics because it "gets things done and helps people". you can feel that way if you want, but try throwing away the discipline of geometry and see what kind of houses get built.
