New Album Predictions

Haven't you just stated what happens with every single fanbase known to man?

BOC owe us nothing, not even more music. there, i repeated it. and i agree. they don't owe us anything. all i am saying is, they don't give a shit about us. show me something to contradict that statement, and i'll take it back.
look, i love their music and how it has enriched my life. but as a buyer of their music, i have a right to say they don't care about their fans. they don't, and i'm calling them out on it.

Does it really matter one way or another? We've been hearing a lot of "offical" word over the last XX that a new album is coming, and for me that is enough reason to believe that they are doing something. (This is against someone like Aphex Twin, who I truly believe doesn't give a fuck about his fanbase*)

Don't they both have families now? If so I think the fans are rightfully quite low down on the list of priorities.


*But, to be completely honest with you. If I were in his position, I'd be doing a similar thing... Maybe release a "From the Archives" CD every two or three years.

A quick show of hands from the community- How many of you would love to make a living as a musician, work hard through your 20's and 30's then stop when you reach 40, start a family and enjoy the rest of your life without the stresses of someone else's expectations or bills?

MDG has already said there is an album COMING OUT THIS YEAR, and has only been delayed "Because of forces out of the bands control"


So I wake up every morning and come straight here hoping to see that wonderful thread titled "NEW BOC ANNOUNCED!!!"

True that. I wasn't on this forum when The Campfire Headphase was released, but I read the topic a while ago about TCH. At first, most of the people said it was shit, and so not boc. A few people actually liked it on the first listening. I bet that's what will happen with this album, BoC released a new album with a different sound yet again, people will think it's shit, until they get used to it and realise it's actually really good.

Maybe Im Crazy but anyways im having a guess!

I Think it might have more guitar, id say maybe boc could take a very shoegazey take on their stuff (even though TCH had more acoustic rather than electric) but still kinda has the boc sound with the drums and synths.
Maybe one of the lads is better than kevin sheilds on guitar and can produce a better sound

Anyways Im Prepared for anything and I love each work boc produced but what i want to see more than new music from boc is boc live!
Id say that would be one of the best night outs ever and one hell of a trippy night too

From what I have read they have families and what not to attend to.

So im going to bet that this will have a huge impact on their work and sound style.
You can hear that at the beginning boc were realy adventurus and experimental. In this phase they were also extreemly dark sounding. As they grow up it seems that they are more relaxed and focussed on creating beautifull melodys and more atmosphere. Somewhat more contemplative.

I guess these sides mixed perfectly around the time of MHTRTC.

Im betting that this trend will continue with their new work. The later interviews all point to them trying to move away from the Duo and create a band vibe in their work. Perhaps their production work of "The Sexual Objects" is a pretty big hint to this inclination.

So im trying to reason that it will be more mellow band orientated work, with intricate melodies and less in your face style of beat driven work. I also hope that their parent hood will give them valuable insignt into the roots of nostalgia itself, and that this will be reflected. So from this i deduce that more guitar and acoustic instrumentation will be heard.

But if they stay lo-fi and nostalgic, then i'll be happy whatever.

i reckon this is pretty close to what i'm expectin.

they are masters of texture though, and a big part of their appeal has always been the treatment of individual sounds. I hope they can keep that unique eye to detail if they actively choose to move away from previous methods/aesthetics and embrace their 'band-y' side

Hey all, just wanted to say that I didn't open this thread as a bickering ground, and I wasn't trying to rehash old things. I was just interested in what people thought BoC's new direction and take of the new album would be.

Anyways, I have two thoughts of where the new album might be heading. Originally I thought that maybe they would do a dark album again like Geogaddi concerning government and the cold war, but now I'm curious if they might make a spiritual Album, perhaps like a reverse/Opposite of Geogaddi. The reason being is I stumbled upon the fact that they had been posting Hebrew and Arabic on their myspace under status/mood. (Am I the only one just finding this out?... I hope not )

And also with the Invocation video being a spiritual term, I feel that might have been an allude to what they wanted to do next. Or maybe the album will come out and we'll all be wrong and lost in left field. (But that's the fun of it I think! )

As for instrumentation, I wouldn't mind more guitar, but really I would hope they push instrumentation even farther and use some instruments we'd never think to be BoC, some string instrument that had to deal with religious practices that could only be played at a certain time of day with the ceremony. (Anyone know what I'm talking about or am I just crazy?) Or maybe the Sax.

i'd dislike it too if there would be different guest artists on each track.. to me that does not feel like something proper boards of canada.. it's something I can't really explain but I feel kinda detested when I see an album by any given artist has got lots of "featuring bla bla" on the tracks. It makes it seem like just a collection of individual songs rather than a coherent album.

I want the album to be by Boards of Canada and not by them and a dozen of other artists... so please no guest vocalists. I wouldn't mind one other vocalist or something throughout the whole album. But then again............

Might be off topic and I think this was mentioned before but does anyone else get the feeling that with all this anticipation, probably the highest for any of their releases, that boc are gonna sell this next one really well...
Pretty smart marketing if you ask me, stay quiet and dont release for a few years, let your reputation do the talking, and then bam, a release. I know I would buy just about anything they put out in a jiffy without even looking at what it is if my bank account permits. haha. the power of the boc.
As to sound, maybe something kind of bare and mindfuckerish or something really ethereal sounding like the 747 track.

I'd love it if this were true and your theory kind of makes sense. Wierdly I've always seen Geogaddi as having a lot to do with Invocation. I don't want to derail the thread by explaining that in too much detail but you know the themes of Geogaddi; the math, the cult stuff etc. Just about every track on Geogaddi can be read like as if someone is trying to build a bridge from the present to the past to invoke some kind of shadow or spirit from the past. The way the tracks almost seem to permute until they finally latch on to something and you get a shift in tone, a half whispered message or something like that. (Prime example of this? Alpha and Omega. The melody seems to be going round in circles but it subtly changes throughout the track - count how many bars there are before it repeats itself. Its like tuning into the right frequency, and then the whole track shifts to this new tune, with the whispering voices in the background). I could go into detail about that forever and explain it better but its already too long

Anyway I can see them using an idea like that again in a different way, for sure. And if the clues on the website you picked up on turned out to be relevant then some kind of trans-cultural thing maybe, going into eastern sounds? Then again people tend to make more upbeat, mellow music after having kids so I can see it being a more "up" album in tone.

I dunno, their Broken Drum remix is one of my all-time favorite BoC tracks. I'd probably love it if they did a full album with Beck or someone.

Boards Of Canada been hanging a lot in Cali (their myspace status was California for a year almost)...and Beck is also living out there so maybe they recorded some stuff together...I dont think Beck is too anti about the idea and not BOC either (if he can guest on Tobaccos album...) I mean Beck said in a interview that the Broken Drum remix is the best remix he ever heard of his tracks (they took out something new out of that track).

Also BOC said in a interview that they told warp to say no to everyone asking for remix work except if god (they being sarcastic ) or beck asked for the favour and later beck did it wich they saw as a kind of miracle I think
