Since there are 288 days left in the current year we should all make a pool of money and then everybody should place a bet on what day the album is released. Wages can be left open until there is an album release announcement or something. Or it doesn't have to be money, maybe the winner/winners can get a prize like drawings and poems from the forum members.
haha. sorry, its just that I recently read the short story "Dip in the pool" by Roald Dahl. You guys should check it out, pretty funny.

I assumed the delay was due to the fact that BOC's samples weren't ready yet, as they have to spend three years buried in a peat bog or something.

Was thinking about this over the weekend. I know - well HOPE - the album will come this year, hopefully in the late summer / fall. This will be the first BoC album I've properly waited for. The others, I stumbled across as I was still properly getting into them. Was still exploring the back catalogue when Trans Canada Highway arrived, and there was a lot of 'new' (to me) BoC to keep me occupied during and after the release.
Then the silent period. I came to the end of the road, found no more BoC to listen to. Sometimes I yearn for the new material like someone waiting for their lover at an airport. Nothing else gets in the way, I focus on waiting for this one specific event, to see the return of something I've missed in the past few years where there's been nothing new. And other times..BoC doesn't get played for weeks. Instead, I get into a distracted mishmash of Aphex and Massive Attack, Stars Of The Lid, Bibio and Mazzy Star. Which is fine, good, as it should be. But I always return to this place, waiting for news from Sun.
Sorry. Lots on my mind, needed to vent spleen in a gentle way

the trouble with waiting so long like this is the expectation rises beyond belief.
especially now BoC are more popular than before so the demand is greater.
i just hope it doesnt fall flat on its face if you know what i mean.
it prob will be a good album but the long wait and expectation will overwhelm it.

I think it's safe to say now that TCH's many subtleties have emerged with repeated listening, and many regard it as their personal favorite album.

Yes, this exactly. Best one they've put out.s7409651 wrote:I think a lot of people where underwhelmed at first by The Campfire Headphase.audiotrack wrote:the trouble with waiting so long like this is the expectation rises beyond belief.

Its quite possible they are waiting for sample clearance or simply not finding the time to work together due to family constraints. Who knows. What i do know is that these boys dont release shite so I would expect something pretty good is coming up. Going back to the first post in this thread - Like all musicians I'm sure they had many many ideas to work with, even a 20 year old tune can be updated etc so I dont think they started from scratch.
I could be well off the mark , but I feel this will be the last Album. And why shouldnt it be. All the best artists stop in their prime.

Does anyone actually have what the contract is? I keep hearing people quote it but I don't understand how people know what it is.Infinite E wrote:their warp contract stipulates another 3 albums. one of the various random boc facts i know because i post here.tsg wrote:Its quite possible they are waiting for sample clearance or simply not finding the time to work together due to family constraints. I think TCH was up to scratch, and so was Geogaddi after MHTRTC. In fact, I genuinely think they have improved each time. I'd much rather listen to TCH all the way through before MHTRTC. So they've never not lived up to expectation, that's why they wont fall on their face. They are talented guys, never let anyone down, so why would they this time? It's outwith their control now. Sit tight and it'll be along eventually.

I don't think the contract says "you will give us xxx albums or you will be illegal" more like "the next xxx albums belong to us first (and if we don't like it someone else can have it)"
thing is though after geogaddi I was like where are they gonna go from here? and after TCH it's stil like that. They are like a good lover, passionate and they throw down unexpected moves

I'm sure the contract is a simple "You must release XX amount of records on this label before a certain date and you are/aren't allowed to release music on other labels."jay bee wrote:I don't think the contract says "you will give us xxx albums or you will be illegal" more like "the next xxx albums belong to us first (and if we don't like it someone else can have it)"
The thing about the "(and if we don't like it...)" I don't think that would happen with any of the major electronic musicians. A bad Aphex Twin/ Boards of Canada/ Autechre, etc. album will still sell.
If the next album was 70 minutes of complete silence, it would still sell really well.
I wouldn't buy an album of 70 minutes of silence, I can get that just by going to bed...Quillian wrote:I'm sure the contract is a simple "You must release XX amount of records on this label before a certain date and you are/aren't allowed to release music on other labels."jay bee wrote:I don't think the contract says "you will give us xxx albums or you will be illegal" more like "the next xxx albums belong to us first (and if we don't like it someone else can have it)"

Ok . I am a bit drunk ,but here are a couple of points.
1. Boards of Canada have consistently made good music and begging for a new album is not going to make them release something that is up to all of our expectations.
2. Their record contract is neither here nor there, because it would not be a huge source of income for either the band or the record company . Publishing would have made all concerned much more money over the years than their record deal.
I wish this bird would either shut up or slow right down !

It would be bought by the pseudo-intellectuals who could literally place meaning on nothing. "I love this album man, it's got like, a message man! It represents how the masses consume until there's nothing left, man!" that sort of thing.rick7487 wrote:I wouldn't buy an album of 70 minutes of silence, I can get that just by going to bed...Quillian wrote:I'm sure the contract is a simple "You must release XX amount of records on this label before a certain date and you are/aren't allowed to release music on other labels."jay bee wrote:I don't think the contract says "you will give us xxx albums or you will be illegal" more like "the next xxx albums belong to us first (and if we don't like it someone else can have it)"

But no, I wouldn't buy it either. I'd download it and throw it into a program like Audacity to see if it was true silence, but I'm sure the internet would discover anything hidden long before I got to it.

I love how she says she has to have her music loud when the song she's ripping off is in fact quite mellow. It feels a bit ironic. Anyway, I'm not a fan of what she did. She doesn't list BoC any credit, and funny enough, Wikipedia says that she sampled "Slow this bird down". I didn't know a sample could consist of a whole FUCKING song! (excuse my language) Anyway, I've layered vocals over BoC songs and they came out sounding a thousand times better that her singing.
Sorry if I'm ripping on her, I know this is IMO, but does anyone feel the same?
