I bought that cd before it was popular and I enjoyed it, but once it hit the radio it became nails on a chalkboard.

if it makes you feel any better i often feel the same way about people who sing with a UK accent. PRONOUNCE YOUR R'S PEOPLE.Weekend Cigarette Smoker wrote:Sory but I cant go with this. Just out of interest, which particular UK singers grind your gears the most? Just trying to see if its the Northern or Southern accents that you find annoying

Well i was half joking
But no, what really bugs me is when guys with more middle American accents go into a soft-r accent to sing. There's nothing anywhere that says you have to sing like Lennon or McCartney no matter where you're from. When i sing i catch myself doing it all the time, too - bands everywhere soften up their consonants when they sing and people wind up all sounding like they're from the same area. personally i think it sounds really cool when people sing with hard consonants, it sounds less like they're trying to make the english language softer and prettier than it is.
Ain't no thang.

Yeah I remember hearing this on 93X all the time.. Not a bad song at all - some nu metal did it for me, but not much. I guess people consider Deftones nu metal, but its not nu.. nu? new? PFFFFFF.turquoise70 wrote:Sevendust - Black
it's so aggro I could probably never relate to most of the people who feel this song describes how they feel, but i fucking love this song. i know, it's shitty nu metal. i love it anyway.
Meshugga is somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine.. I really dig it though.
Check out Bleed, off Obzen - it'll whoop you up.

OK I think I have a few years on a lot of you guys. I have major jones on Aretha Franklin, the Beach Boys (I'm listening to Pet Sounds right now), and Abba to name only a few. My favourite band is Steely Dan - they're just so bloody brilliant.
I like all kinds of music - really, even opera which I normally think is a bunch of shite - so may I humbly suggest these as just beautiful:
Camberwick Green...listening to this mandolin melody brings nostalgic tears to my eyes, just imagine having this played to you most weekdays on daytime childrens's TV
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IID-jIfwUhc
Continuing the childrens' TV theme...Mary Mungo and Midge. I used to cry when this finished, it was just too beautiful, particularly because of the end credit music:

But if you really want a true world class artist with a total mastery of time and feel (and with no less than Herbie Hancock giving the into), I present the late and very great Shirley Horn:

Jesus, was it you indeed?
To flirt unkindly with my greed
Promising eternal life
When you knew it was not right?
When you knew that what I'd need was willingness and comfort there

Elvis always makes me think of Christmastime. I am fascinated by the mythology of The King, of his rise, his death, the conspiracy theories... there, I Just justified your guilty pleasure.
