Happy Cycling - Pink Floyd?

Post by Tomisnever »

Sorry if this have been brought up before, but i couldn't find anything in the search. Anyway do you think BoC sampled this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnRmnZbY0NA
I heard someone mention it on youtube, and was surprised to find there's something about this track which is strangely like Happy Cycling, whether it be sampled, or inspired by, or just maybe the same tempo. What do you guys think? I can't put my finger on it! But i can defiantly see some king of resemblance.

dude, that would be awesome. this isn't in the wiki for this track, so i suppose it's new unless it's been debunked. it certainly sounds very similar, especially when compared to the live version of happy cycling. the only thing that makes me doubt it is that i'd imagine it'd be very $$$$$ to clear a pink floyd sample when they released MHTRTC. unless they hoped nobody would find out?

nice find, either way!

Heart Beat, Pig Meat is definitely one of my favourite pieces of music ever.
I believe they did indeed sample it but only in the peel session (and possibly one of the live versions) of the song.

The back round sounds very close... Who knows. I always wondered what they paid to use their sesame street samples in Sunshine Recorder and The Color Of The Fire.

This sounds a bit like the beat and the ghostly vocals from Audiotrack 06 off of the Random 35 Tracks Tape (Side A).

yea, those too. what do these kinds of things normally run for? hundreds? thousands?

it's hard being an electronic artist with a knack for sampling nostalgia, eh?

Is that film, Zabriski Point, not one of their favourite films?

Happy Cycling sample is somewhere between 2:20 - 7:08

If anything, the sample you suggest sounds most like the loop on the BoardsofCanada website.
Which sounds like Kraftwerk. Its actually pretty common.
Cool to spot that though.

I think is not quite the same beat... (In happy cycling being Heart beat, pig meat).

Concerning the loop sound on BoC's site, (I think there's a thread discussing this) is almost like the beat of Chemical Brothers - Surface to air.

Yes, that was mentioned in one of their interviews. It definitely inspired them.
