My first post... Dayvan Cowboy hooked me. Watched the video and became obsessed after that.

Olson and Red Moss, in autumn 2000. These were the first BoC tracks I'd heard. I was making my mind up about going to the Warp Lighthouse Party and was checking out those on the line-up I hadn't yet heard. I regret not going to the gig (we all know the score on BoC live shows, eh?) but found BoC's music.

Someone here or on watmm said "Skyliner is a million miles of music condensed into 6 minutes" and I couldn't agree more
"We're just a band. Not an IDM band, not an electronic band, and not a dance band."

Well I first heard Thom Yorke mention them on Dead Air Space, that he had bought their newest album (Campfire Headphase). They were awesome at the time, but I was on a Radiohead kick. A few months later I listened again and Peacock Tail punched me in the Mind, amazing track... You don't really expect those AWESOME drums to kick in after those beautiful chords.

Peacock Tail is certainly one of their most epic. God that build up is unreal and the final climax and payoff are the fucking holiest of holies.

I love everything I've ever heard from BoC with an endless passion, especially when they get all dark and trippy, but The Campfire Headphase is definitely the sweetest, most epic, and all around most impactful to me of all their releases. I never cease to jam that one on the highway, and I never seem to even halfway wear it out and it just keeps on endlessly pumping pure love into my brain, body, and mind. All their albums do this to me in some sort of way, but The Headphase just does it a lot more.

I had no idea at all before getting into BoC that music could have such high levels of depth and power and above all, replay value.

Ahhh. It's wierd, I kind of worked backwards through their catalog starting with the Campfire Headphase and find myself attracted quite a bit to Geogaddi and ABPOITC. Kid for Today is quite another tune that shows a bit diff. side of their music. The drum clacks especially are fine!

I love BoC beause all the albums explore such drastically different themes and territories so that each person kind of has their own album that suits them and their tastes and the kinds of artistic themes one is interested the most in. A friend getting into BoC once told me to rank their albums from best to worst and I realized that such a system couldn't work because all of the albums have such drastically high quality standards that even the "worst" BoC album was still of absurdly great quality. I found it wrong to attach to a certain style of BoC at the expense of others, and even more wrong, to impose my attachments onto a fresh listener and to distort how they see these things even before they've been allowed a chance to see for themselves.

The only way I can rank best to worst is by examining how those albums make me feel and how I understand them, and how the albums make me feel aren't exactly how they make others feel or how they are going to understand it, so its tough to make any objective statement that's supposed to actually mean something to anyone else who comes up and looks at the score I gave or what I had to say about it.

All I can say is for people to stay away from any reviews or 1-10 sort of ranking system and to just go judge the BoC discography on their own with the most open mind they can and then pick one album that you feel the most and to just dig into that particular rabbit hole as far as you can go.

And eventually you come to see that all the albums are each a rabbit hole that takes one very deep into a place the others don't.

I couldn't agree more. Each album is, as you say, an individual rabbit hole. Sometimes I will listen to one album exclusively to get lost in its "presence", because it seems each album is an experience, has it's own unique feel... It's hard to say which is the best because they all are of equal mental value. I also agree that a ranking system would be pointless; its more like the separate albums appeal to different areas of the brain while somehow being relative to each other as a whole. I have yet to hear AFOT or OT VOl. 2... but I am working on getting their catalog. Just got Twoism about 2 weeks ago and need to get TCH. I need to hear remixes, too.

agree. This is also a very relaxing track that I like to listen to calm down when I'm too stressed out! But the first track I really got hook by BoC is definetly "roygbiv" from Music has the right to children. There is something about that bassline & drums that just stick very well together. Amazing track & very well produced.

This. Amo Bishop Roden will always be tied for my favourite BoC song. Whenever I hear it, it just makes me think it should be a soundtrack for flying through space in an old spaceship.

Olsen, however, makes me just drop whatever I'm doing and meditate for the duration. It's what I call a 'big sky' song. Meaning I can just close my eyes, and picture a limitless terrain and sky surrounding me.

Probably Sixtyniner?

It's funny because I thought I "got" it when I first heard that, being the first song of BOCs I had heard.

It's been a kind of adventure discovering BOC because with every release and song it brings with it its own individual adventure you can get absorbed in through different planes of concentration and listening, or you could just stick it on as chillout music.

When I played the Twoism EP again, it was almost like it was a different song. I could pick out and enjoy so many different aspects I had never picked up on as a casual listener.

Well, mine would have to be Aquarius. That song grew on me. After a few listens, I wanted to just check out all of BOC's albums. Just waiting for new material now.......
