I'm basing this off my fuzzy memory, but I recall it being someone at Warp who ran it, not MDG. Either way, I want a new BoC album as much as anyone. I just hate being teased.Guido wrote:As far as I know MDG maintains it, and he has a direct connection with the band, so it can be interpretated as legitimate news.ryetronics wrote:How is this news? It's been said numerous times that BoC do NOT have any input to that myspace site, even though it is technically "official".

I find no comedic merit to this.turquoisey wrote:MARCUS IS MY BFF AND HE SAID THAT THEY'RE MAKIN A NEW ALBUM AND ITZ GONNA BE CALLED DISTANT TOILETS AND IT'S REALLY SUCKY AND THE ALBUM COVER IS AN X-BOX ON FIRE IN A TRASH CAN CUZ THEY RLLY DONT LIKE XBOXES AND MARCUS SINGS A BALLAD ABOUT BIRDS THAT ATE HIS LUNCH MONEY AND OWL CITY IS A SPECIAL GUEST AND HELPED WITH ALL OF THE SONGXZZZZZZZZZZ!!!ryetronics wrote:Someone should come up with a really quality fake so we can lure MDG from his shell in the hopes of getting more info... EDINBURGH, SCO - After three years of diligent effort, an operation to crack the world's most deeply encrypted security codes and re-open the Hexagon Sun bunker has been deemed a triumphant success. "Like you've never locked yourself out of your car" Boards of Canada co-founder Marcus Eoin was quoted quipping to this reporter. The band's myspace page has been updated to "in the studio" to reflect time spent on their current project creating a remix of Lady Gaga's 'Starstruck'.

In the studio could mean, they have made their track selection, and are in the mastering studio.Cupz wrote:if they are in their studio now...that means it won't be finished till 2050.
their probably just making a boards of canada version of happy birthday for their mom.
It could also mean they have just started.

That's great! Any news is news to me! I think it has to do with either the finalisation of their forthcoming album (mastering or track selection) OR jamming for future records to be released after the ones coming in 2010. Either way it's great news. I think they went on holiday and just returned to their music production hideout.
And yes that myspace site is an official site, but not since the very beginning. They've taken over the account which was initially created by a fan. Read the statements page @ bocpages.

MDG: "to clear this up: the myspace page was taken over by warp some time ago, and is now maintained by both warp staff and a couple of friends of the band, on a 'when time permits' basis. the 'you and i' player on the page is apparently only visible to US users, and was added by myspace themselves. they've been contacted a few times with requests to remove the 'you and i' thing but they've ignored the requests."
MDG: "there are at least four people keeping an eye on it to keep spam off, and i have access to it."
MDG: "This message is absolutely right. The guys' 'radio silence' is simply because they're busy. They're not retiring anytime soon. If it gives you guys any kind of useful insight, Mike and Marcus hate doing promotional work, and they see things like MySpace as counter-productive homogenizing communities. But the page was set up by a fan and was already mis-representing the band, so they requested that it was taken over so they could at least know that it wouldn't start filling up with shit. They would have shut it down, but were persuaded by Warp to keep the community going."

I've heard a few people use the term "going into the studio" when an album is done. For example- "Yeah, the album's done I just need to finalise a tracklisting- I'm going to go into the studio at the weekend."Fredd-E wrote:That's great! Any news is news to me! Or it could mean "We've finished one album, taken a break and we are going back into the studio." Bands tend to be at least a few months ahead of their releases.
That was fantastic.
