Started this on Saturday and i've hardly been able to put it down. Nearing the end. Absolutely incredible... I have only read Naked Lunch by Burroughs before (also awesome), but am now committed to devouring all I can get my hands on. Pure poetic genius @_@

Snuf, I'm wondering how you managed to read Naked Lunch? I tried and tried, but the amount of "slang" and the semi-chaotic way of writing made it pretty unreadable for me.

Yesterday Cupz was here I traded my copy of Naked Lunch for his copy of Finnegans Wake

. I consider the latter even more unreadable but it's quite interesting considering Joyce's motivation behind it.

It was a couple of years ago. When I first started reading it I realised I had read nothing like it and found that my method of reading had to change too... I found, basically, the 'soft eyes' approach works best with Naked Lunch - just absorb the words and mess of images without a great deal of thought and it then kinda reads more like a half-remembered dream than a fully-recognised piece of fiction. If that makes sense, that's the way I found

How do you find the new Ellis? I have read reviews that describe it as a tired re-hash of his old themes.. as someone who found Lunar Park refreshing, what do you think?

At first I didn't really know what to do with it. I was insecure. "Am I following this?" "did I miss some vital information? Is that why its a scrambled egg?"
But I was compelled to read further. After a while it was starting to make sense, not chronologically, but aesthetically.
I'm already halfway through and I can't put it down!

Maybe its because I've read finnigans wake. I can zone out everything except things that do make "sense" for me, and enjoy individual passages without complaining about not understanding "the big picture". Naked Lunch has a big picture, I just didn't see it until 50 pages in.

I just start to read it, so it's too soon to give my view. I will be back in this thread in 100 pages

But yeah the style is obviously more like "less than zero" than "lunar park". Lunar park was an interesting and fresh new exploration by Bret I agree with you. But I don't like the ghost story IoI.

Ok so I finised Imperial bedrooms two days ago.

The style mix a big part of less than zero with a little part of american psycho and lunar park. It's short, it's generally good and sometime less, like, you think "he take 5 years to write that ??!"...But's it's a pretty interesting sequel of less than zero, and he put some modern effect in, like in less than zero : Wayfarer, GQ etc... Here it's Apple, Iphone, SMS, internet...

Try it and tell me your point of view
