Really nothing beats Solo Electric Bass 1 for self indulgence. That said the new clip sounds quite good actually, I just hope it isn't all in the same vein as it.

To be fair though, it was called Solo Electric Bass. So what did anyone expect? I don't like all this jumping on Squarepusher, he's been honest about what he's doing and it's definitely leading somewhere. He's really merging his classical bass background with his skills as an electronic producer. There's an amazing album on its way, not sure if this is it though.

Yeah , you have to admit he's a very good musician. And very skilled at playing his instrument(s).

Maybe this album could be good , all I heard is this clip , but I was kinda put of by the LED gimmick.

Yeh - ur right. I have pounded on him a bit too much in the past but he is an awesome musician and has made some good music. Also seems like a decent guy. Caught him live at Glastonbury 2004 as well, and that show was absolutely incredible. He's an excellent musician live and in the studio. There's just.... something with Squarepusher, and this new stuff that grinds a bit on me...

Understandable. I do think that maybe he should have released his last two under an alias but this seems to be the direction he wants to go in. When someone makes such a big departure from the sound you commonly associate with them it can be a bit frustrating, but I'm going to persist - he's too talented to ignore.

Well I watched the clip. It's really damn good, people just expect him to make techno. Also it reminded me of seeing buckethead live back in like 2000. I can understand whoever it was being confused at "is he blindly playing" because most people aren't used to the bass being a stand alone instrument.

i'm a fan of his bass work, the clip vexille posted confirms that he is a brilliant musician - yet the video posted on his website just falls flat on itself. the overused led space helmet, the effect on the bass is cringe worthy, the drums in the mix seem a little distant...ok, so it's early morning, and i have no idea where this is going with this...i'm interested to hear the release despite my disappointment with the video i suppose.

To be honest , the song from the video is really growing on me after listening a few more times.
Didn't really strike me at first but now it's catchiness is starting to kick in.
At first I thought the beat was a little too straightforward and the intro too dry. But now I'm curious to hear the rest of the album. (anyone else thinks squarepusher is great autumn/fall music?)
This seems less silly than 'Just a Souvenir'.

Same here, but without listening a few more times. The concept was just floating through my head for a couple of days and then I was like...shit, squarepusher is one bad-ass motherfucker.

I really dislike this new Squarepusher sound. Everything seems stripped down and unimaginitive, maybe this is intentional, maybe this was the next logical step. However I really enjoyed Solo Electric Bass...I knew what I was getting in to before I listened, and his jazz/classical playing sounded great and fresh.
I thought Numbers Lucent was a cool nod to the ravey stuff, but I certainly didn't expect this "Shobaleader" project and I have to say that I am disappointed with this direction. That's quite ok though, I am looking forward to new BoC and new Aphex Twin, and I just got into the new VHS Head release...wow!!

I wonder how many die-hard Squarepusher fans will try and force themselves to enjoy this just because it has his name on it?

I loved Just a Souvenir, and I think I'm gonna love this new one too.
I'm a huge jazz, soul and funk fan, probably about as I am an electronic fan, so this plays right towards me.

Had to turn this off eventually near the end. Sad where he's ended up musically. That one smooth jazz piece in particular.
