BOC mentioned this book by Huxley in their interview with the Wire when describing their music/techniques. In light of that, I thought this would be an interesting read...

It's the Doors namesake. I hear it's basically a record of Huxley's experiences using mescaline.

Who has read it? I read it today, I'm fairly impressed, even though I don't intend to use mescaline (nor any other drug.. ever.. for personal reasons). I was expecting to read a colorful summary of his mescaline trip but not much more, and indeed it is very colorful and poetic at times (..visions of many-colored geometries, of animated architectures, rich with gems and fabulously lovely, of landscapes with heroic figures, of symbolic dramas trembling perpetually on the verge of the ultimate revelation..), but even more impressive is its richness of philosophical insights (like the theory of the brain not necessarily as a "generative" organ but rather a "reducing valve" of the infinite consciousness) which appeal greatly to me. In general, his description of his trip reminded me of the earliest memories I can recollect as a human being, when I was three, four years old and when I just perceived my environment without involving words, without judgment, when I probably perceived things "as they were", as opposed to the "utilitarian" way as he puts it.

It doesn't surprise me at all that the Sandisons are influenced by it.

I love the way this all played out: the mescaline he took was administered by a psychiatrist when LSD and other psychedelic medicines were in legitimate practiced use. The whole story is chronicled on wikipedia and elsewhere, it's such a cool factoid to bring up when discussing drug policy.

I've read this and I'm not surprised that the Sandisons would be fond of it considering their affinity with nostalgia and seeing things anew for the first time like a child, so to speak

It's very insightful and one of my favorite books, especially concerning self-inflicted bodily harm in relation to biochemistry and as a cause of religious experiences during the middle ages. Just very intereseting overall.

I haven't read this book (although I might). Pic was more in reference to the article link in the OP:

That, mixed with an interview saying the brothers used the book as an 'analogy' for how they produce their music apparently, just reminded me of the Geogaddi days and how some were worried that their backward satanic messages and all were to be taken seriously.

there's nothing like an old drum machine sampled cowbell distorted, compressed and used to just the right effect. in the hands of a master it's beautiful.
