the whole of Incunabula and Amber occasionaly some newer stuff but not much

someone bought me incunabula for my 18th birthday maaaany years ago now and my whole music advenutre changed from then onwards

I only have 5 of their albums. I actually really love Untilted, especially Iera and Lcc. My other favourites from the albums I have are Garbagemx36, Second Scout, Leterel, Rotar, Recury and Silverside.

Pretty much the same here. I really like Tri Repetae as well, but after that it became music I could admire technically but didn't do anything emotionally for me. They still do the odd great one-off track though.

Amber is one of my favourite albums. An impulse purchase on a dull college day, mainly because I loved the cover. If only all impulse purchases turned out so well.

I've really liked them for years especially Incunabula. The last couple of albums haven't done much for me, but recently i got Tri Repetae for the first time (i had every other album - i don't know how i missed that one) and have been listening to it almost non-stop. It's fucking amazing.

Best tracks - Clipper, Gnit, Overand. I also like Second Scepe, Arch Carrier off LP5 and too many others to mention.

Man, Tri Repetae is soooo good.

clipper, second scepe, (most of tri repetae and earlier releases actually) most of the gescom stuff

oh, and TILAPIA from cichlisuite is an amazing track, everyone likes krib, it's alright but tilapia is gorgeous and much more interesting

Man, too many good tracks to name. My 2 favorite Ae tracks would have to be Rae and Piezo.

Been meaning to ask you guys which Autechre CD is the best. I actually bought one a few years back and actually ended up bringing it back to the shop cause it was shite - atonal, aimless, "oh I think I'll push that button cause its big and shiney and I dont care what it sounds like". So do they have anything with a more structured, melodic sound?

Their first 3 albums are more melodic and structured, but what was that album you bought?

Celadon; which album was it? I made the mistake of downloading Confield like 2 years ago after seeing Pitchfork give it a good review. I was quickly turned off, but eventually decided to get Amber and I'm glad as fuck I did. They're now in the top 5 of my favorite artists of all time. I'd definately go for either Amber or Lp5, you won't be disspointed.

Oh and Tri Repatae is good too, but be sure to get the double disc version. The second disc consists of 2 eps; Anvil Vapre and Garbage. Some of thier best tracks are on those eps.

'Untilted' is my favorite Autechre album right now... I just love every track on it... It's like a rave in a geometric junk-yard... Despite its seeming disarray and insanity, I find Untilted to be a well-organized machine compared to something even more isolated and impenetrable (like 'Draft 7:30'). It's almost as though they finally built the factory they set out to create back in the LP5 days...

I wouldn't hasten a guess as to where they can go from here... Perhaps tracks sequenced using syncopated masturbation samples... Oh wait, Venetian Snares already did that, apparently.

Amber is gorgeous but not nearly as deep for me...

definitely my favorite act over the past five years or so. i first got into them after reading the SOS interview around the time Cichlisuite came out ('97?). i bought Incunabula, then Amber and Tri Repetae++. for some reason, i didn't get anything else by them until Confield came out. i'll just say it was a bit over my head at the time and i wished that they had stayed closer to what they were. i picked up Draft 7.30 when it was released, and suddenly it all 'clicked'.

these days i actually prefer their later stuff, as i'm always finding something new every time i listen. sure, the gorgeous melodies aren't so 'there', but the rhythms are fantastic and i'm in love with the desolate, mechanical sound of their music in general since Chiastic Slide.

actually, i've been been downloading all the live sets off the WATMM page over the past few days. great stuff.

Thanks for the really clear advice derail. I will check this stuff out on the strength it:!: I cant remember the name of the CD I brought back to the shop or what the cover was like- thats how much of an impression it didnt make on me! Cheers

I can understand that. When i first heard them i probably thought something similar - souless, empty, clinical etc. But then after a while it starts to sink in and you see beyond that. Give it some time, it's worth it. They're probably up there with my favourite bands now. Start with the early stuff - Incunabula, Amber, Tri Repetae - and work your way up from there because they do get a bit less accessible in their later work.

sounds great. but yeah, really seems to be devoid of of the certain emotions of their older stuff. i'd say the newer stuff has quite a bit of emotion as well, but it's comparable to being hyped up on speed. not as much my thing generally, but i still dig it.

Been going back and replaying those later albums this morning. Chiastic Slide and LP5 have definitely grown on me over the years. However Confield still isn't doing much for me and I'm finding Untilted plain irritating.

I appear to have lost my copy of Draft 7.30. Not sure if that's bad thing.

I've always seen latterday Ae as polar opposites to BoC. Stark monochrome vs. saturated colour. Cold reason vs. warm fuzzy sensation. Sterile machinery vs. nature.

It could just be that the drummer in me recoils from arhythmic glitch. I long for a groove, a pulse.
