Yeah, good point....I just think that this music has that much of a massive effect on people. The next step beyond waiting for another album is (for artists) to write their own music and being able to maybe say that BoC has positively influenced their sound and/or ideas. It's gonna be good to think of what the future holds for new, young artists and how that will shape the next generation of music! BoC has made their mark anyways (and might continue to?)...that's really just the important thing for me.

Instead of taking the time to read and post these pointless and irrelevant observations and speculations, why don't people do something more productive?

I constantly wonder the answer to this question when reading through the countless identical posts on this forum before realising that I'm doing the same, and I hate myself for it. BoC's music should be inspiring but all it seems to do to me these days is make me realise that I don't have the motivation, talent, creativity or whatever else I need to do something that would make me feel as happy or inspired as their music used to make me feel. So instead I waste time browsing the internet with no particular direction or intended motive and read lots of news stories that I have little interest in just to feel like I'm doing something relevant or read music websites because minor news concerning musicians I like is really important or look for news of BoCs activity etc etc.

I love these forums but lately I feel like I don't want to be like the BoC fans who post in these threads. Anyone see a reflection of themselves in this post?

it's certainly not a problem that people create these threads, the only problems in my eyes are that sometimes it results in negativity from people and that, like i said above, sometimes it goes so deep into...like...desperate speculation that i start to wonder if we'll ever just enjoy BoC again without all the tension and craziness. those of us who have been here a few years will tell you that this forum has the capacity to be a very uplifting place, so when we sound bitter often it's just because we're comparing what we're experiencing now with our memories of this place being one of the most sheltered havens of geeky electronic music appreciation on the internet, and it still is.

my theory is that times are just shitty right now all-around and the "no BoC" thing is just sort of an outlet for some people like drinking is for me, or complaining about some other aspect of my life. it's not a conscious thing but everything is more agonizing when times are hard in general.

The whole 10/10/10 thing made me giggle from the start. Here in Vancouver, the most exciting news that came from that date was all the young couples chasing the date to confirm for their wedding day.

I agree with a lot of the sentiments in this thread, patience is a must but I can empathise with the more avid fans awaiting a new Boards of Canada release. It will come, when it does, it will be good, cause lots of inevitable debate and all this bored speculation will be forgotten in an instant.

Let me present a few facts here which I'm sure most fans will relate to.

My Bloody Valentine, arguably one of the most brilliant important experimental guitar bands of our generation.

Dates, not including their early albums which to me only serve as lead up's to their breakthrough releases.

1988. Isn't anything.
1991. Loveless.
Throughout the ninties-various other MBV member bands- snowpony etc.
20xx Kevin Shields various bits and pieces.

Fact. Those two MBV albums are like rare minerals from another planet. They are revered and loved by all kinds of music lovers and bands. MBV have been promising and promising a new album. all sorts of rumours about box sets, rare outtakes, etc. Anyone that can't start to see the parallel's between them and Boards here must be naive. Boards without a doubt are/were certainly fans of My Bloody Valentine. The thing seems to be that MBV fans waiting for a new release seemed to have a more level headed patient approach to the expectancy level, there was less InTerNet$ in those days. Boards of Canada fans like to feel special, nothing wrong with that but the music is special because B.O.C make it for themselves while allowing us a window into their world, they don't write tracks thinking about how some fan in Australia will feel when they are listening to it whilst simultaneously looking at pictures of rain through the Geogaddi Kaleidoscope. Some B.O.C fans remind me of a documentary I saw recently about 2 Tiffany Stalkers. Just wait it out and enjoy what you have already! It's not that difficult. There are so many great unsigned artists producing and in some respects outclassing what B.O.C have already done ages ago that is there to be discovered and enjoyed afresh right now. I think it's important to remember that B.O.C have no obligations, no debt here to you personally.

I'm sure they have a bunch of fantastic releases lined up but they will put them out in their own time, they probably just breathe a bit slower than you're regular 17 year old blogger who rushes around at a million miles an hour while frantically refreshing their facebook page in case someone has stolen one of their virtual farm zombies.
We're lucky to have the music they have already released. It's great, relax and enjoy it!
Many of the posters are right when they say boredom is a factor. You could be spending the time recording great music or doing whatever makes you happy instead of (or while doing so) worrying so much about two talented brothers who you don't personally know and what they are currently doing with their music.
This is the first post I've ever made about the Boards of Canada fan phenomena but something about reading this thread made me finally compelled to post my feelings. Wow, just relax and wait it out. When the next album comes out, we can all discuss it...

The other thing that gets people so riled up about these threads is that nothing significantly new ever gets said in them - they are like repeats of each other, you could probably match post-for-post any of these types of threads with another of its kind and find matches for almost all the sentiments expressed. Sometimes the blind, inevitable repetition of this cycle becomes maddening.
