autumn music

is it just me or is the only appropriate time to listen to joy division, mbv, the smiths, etc. is in the fall? i've always associated them for some reason.

Also, I feel that way about a lot of my progressive rock/post-rock collection;

Pink Floyd, Yes, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Kansas, E.L.O. (not exactly prog rock, but whatevs), and others.

i suppose its al about the mellow, melancholic music for myself as i walk my way through the gathering leaves.

Recently discovered Gregory Alan Isakov's folk music. Fans of Calexico may enjoy this, I find it very Autumnal and very beautiful.

For me at the moment its not really autumn music. Im still desperately holding on to that last bit of summer before i admit autumn is upon us

At that point the less "dancable" records turn up.

personally I think MBV is a winter thing, and GY!BE and most post rock fits the winter mood particularly well. barren landscapes, glittery snowfall, long walks at night when it's snowing... all things I associate with winter.

but personally in the fall, I listen to a lot of aphex and the harsher kind of IDM for some reason. I also listen to a lot more metal around this time of year.

Good choices. Although the Fleet Foxes album has an amazing ability to sound "just right" for any season*

* ie, it's just a great album.
