Burial - Untrue [2007]

I am in love with Burial right now...I don't think there has been electronic music this emotionally and atmospherically hard-hitting for me since Geogaddi...

As for Burial, I gotta say... I've only heard Untrue, got it after widespread recommendations, but either I haven't yet clicked with it or its unclickable for me. The way I feel towards the album -recurrently so when I give the it more shots- is that Burial overuses things in his palette, or uses very very similar things - and the whole thing just doesn't do anything for me Surprised

Like I say, I keep returning to it to give it a shot - and hope one day i'll enjoy it. But that's just it; I don't enjoy it @_@

Update: Okay... I took iiicon's advice and checked this album out again, and while I usually have a disposition not to 'let in' based on a recommendation, 'Untrue' totally hit home with me.

I looped this on the train to work, and while at work... and .. it worked! Best way I can describe the difference is, in a synaesthetic sense, the album when I listen to it now has a completely different flavour to what I was previously picking up. I'm now recognising the beauty of all the atmospherics and the use of distorted R&B-esq vocals as carrying something that maps such an interesting landscape i've never heard before. There's hints of rain, fire, post-explosion Baghdad, burned out suburbs, South London borough's and cold nights (when your group was too young to have a place and put-up with smoking weed in alleyways) all at different times, and together, playing through the atmosphere. AND.. the similar palette that I had previously thought/felt showed something bland I now recognise carries, perfectly, subtle changes that run throughout the whole album as one piece. I hardly ever get this excited about an album - and i'm having to force myself not to listen too much for fears that i'll kill it (you guys ever get that?)

So thanks iiicon for being the one to bump me to check this out again, because i'm hearing something soooo much more in it now - I WANT MORE.

Other than his first album, which i'm going to pickup ASAP, do you guys have any other recommendations of something similar? I guess I am pretty out-the-loop when it comes to Dubstep... but if there's more that carry the quality of this then I want to know @_@!

I just put on Endorphin and got goosebumps all up and down my body...very very rare that music moves me that much. I would rate Burial equal with BoC in terms of most emotive electronic artists ever.

I am in love with this album, it's got such a beautiful yet occasionally menacing nocturnal urban vibe. Like looking out of the top storey windows of a squalid towerblock at the vast expanse of city around you and thinking about who's getting murdered, who's making love, who's being arrested, who's roaming the streets with nowhere to go...
sorry, I got a bit carried away there, but it is a bloody good album
Etched Headplate, Endorphin, Shell of Light and Raver are my personal favourites (although it's a pretty much faultless album)

EXACTLY ON POINT. That's literally exactly the same feeling it gives me, I would have said the same thing about the tower block and everything. Usually I'm all "Weeeee! Nature!" But this album makes me wanna ride my bike through an abandoned downtown at 4AM under fluorescent flickering lights, and somehow, it would be the most beautiful thing.

A nice pairing is Endorphin followed by Olson. Along with a 1996 Pinot Grigio and brie

If you're talking about Untrue, I'll have to agree. The selftitled album doesn't really do it for me..

I got exactly all those feelings of wandering the city at 3am from the first self-titled album too. I think it now sounds less accomplished and effective simply because Untrue was *so* good.

At the time, the first album absolutely blew me away...

Anyone looking for similar stuff I'd say Scuba and James Blake both are fairly prominent in the dubstep boundary pushing area.
Making sweet melodic sounds while still having the beats of dubstep.
