Ouchy!

OK - so last night I'm out with the Mrs, celebrating her Mum's 60th birthday. A lovely evening of fine food and wine, good company in nice surroundings, but all kind of went a bit wrong on the way home..

We walk back to the car (we have a driver meeting us from a cab firm that drives you and your car home for you - cool idea!). We unlock the car, I open the door, stoop down to get in and the passanger door whips back and twats me on the left eye.

Instantly, I've sobered up! Pain shooting through my skull, a nice split just to the side of my eye which then puffs up like I've taken a right hook from Tyson and I start swearing like a trooper with tourettes.

Got home, ice pack applied to face and tried to get some sleep. The swelling has gone done a little today, and thankfully the cut is quite small, but pretty deep. The bruise is a spectrum of colours, including UV and infra red. Absolutely excruciating if I forget and touch it and rubbing my eyes is an absolute joy!

So, what stupidity-based injuries have you guys picked up recently and how? Go on, make me feel better/less ridiculous

That sucks Mexicola.

Last summer I was cycling to a friend of mine and the reckless guy I am I cycled on the wrong side of the street and then turned left. The pedals of my bike hit the pavement and I flew through the air.

I had that wound and a bruised rib. Wasn't too bad, but made me realize how fragile life is (I was fine, but if i fell on my head or something things would have looked differently...).

Word. I know exactly what you mean. I've been thinking today that another inch and I'd have lost an eye. Scary...

i haven't had any stupidity injuries lately - unless you count the injuries i'm going to have eventually from my horrible computer chair posture - but two months ago i had a newbie/inexperienced/panic injury involving two rats i had adopted from a friend who was moving and couldn't take them. the move shocked them and one decided to try and kill the other despite being BFFs with him their entire life, and in the process of separating them i got my hand chewed the fuck up by the aggressive one, and believe me, rats don't usually bite but on the rare occasion they really are that scared they definitely leave a mark. the same rat would bite again 2 days later, causing me to have to drive myself to urgent care twice in a span of 2 days and forcing me to keep a metal splint on my index finger for 10 days while the wound spanning the width of my knuckle healed. there's still blood in the carpet from the whole ordeal. oh, and that's only 1/3 of the story, there's even more that went down before it all ended. the rats are alright now though, and my hand has 3 new scars: two in the heel of my thumb where i was bit the first time, and one down the length of my knuckle in the shape of a bracket about 1cm long

I turned the tip of my finger purple the other night by accidentally slamming it against the edge of my desk. That'll teach me not to play the air drums.

Having been an avid cyclist for about ten years I've had way too many scrapes and road rashes like Guido there. It's mostly inconsiderate cars/drivers that cause them.

The worst is when you have to pick out the gravel and grass with a pair of tweezers...using a mirror because it's on your back.

Was picking up an old wine distilling jug full of coins the other day, the bottom cracked off and cut halfway through my pinky finger, and took a chunk of flesh out of my ring finger. 6 stitches to fold my pinky back over, it was flipped inside out and the fat and muscle tissue was just bulging out, he had to take scissors and cut some of it away to close it back up.

This is nothing new though, I do something like this on schedule about ever 6 months, lol.

A few months ago I dropped a fork lift fork extension on my big toe while I was wearing converse one stars! I was working with my coworker when the fork got stuck on one our machines, it let go and slammed down on my big toe. I dropped my tools and limped to the restroom where I took off my shoe, my sock was drenched in blood. I took off my sock and blood was pouring from under my nail and into my shoe. Blood was everywhere. I couldn't walk on it for a few days it was so bad. The whole toe was purple and black. The nail fell off too. It grew back but took forever!

After that I bought some steel toe boots,

Basically every injury I ever gotten involved alcohol and my bicycle in it.

Had a hole in my chin for a while, that looked nasty as hell, blood everywhere.

got punched out at a bar a few weeks ago. broke my nose, cut up the inside of my mouth, had a black eye for a week or so. more stories!

also, i'm a cook and have cut/burned myself countless times. worse one was when i slipped up when sharpening a knife and caught my finger instead of the sharpener. had to get three stitches.

I gotta story about my older brother. About 6 years ago, I guess he was about 28 or so... He was on a date with this girl. They both had been drinking pretty good when he decided to drive her back to his place. He said he was looking down at her legs cause she had a skirt on when he ran through a red light, hit a truck, flipped his truck upside down totaling it. He said he freaked out and knew he was in some deep shit, so he looked over at the girl and said see ya later. He fled the scene drunk and out of his mind. He ran and hid in a garage downtown. They had the police looking for him with dogs and everything, they found him hiding in a corner with blood and white powder all over his face and clothes from the airbag going off. He got a DUI, Reckless Driving, Fleeing the scene of an accident and running a red light. My Mom found out about it when she was watching the 11pm News when they showed his face and name on the screen.

So yeah, don't drink and drive.

i still have scars on my back from when i flipped over the handlebars of my bike. was going fairly fast and went to shoot some snot out of my nose, and hit a pothole with only one hand on the bike.

Small beer compared to some of the efforts here (well done by the way - proper gorsefest some of these!), but I was playing football (soccer for our friends across the pond) Friday night.

Got into a prolonged battle for the ball with one of their players and ended up slide tackling him on astroturf. Not big and not clever. Astroturf is covered in tiny little rubber balls that dampen the bounce of the ball. So I left about half an ounce of skin-based DNA on the pitch in exchange for several dozen little rubber balls that have now imbeded themselves into my left knee like shrapnel. Stings like a bitch and is a lovely shade of red, black and blue.

Still, we won...
