Nasa announced they made a big discovery on Astrobiology (alien life).

What do you think they will have to say on the press conference next thurseday?

Here's to hoping for something nuts, but I'm guessing it's more like:

"It looks like we were definitely correct in assuming that it is absolutely possible that life could exist somewhere. I mean, come on, look how big this universe is, and stuff. Now give us more $$$$$$..."

For the sake of fun and games... my money would be on a new algorithmic method of discovering the existence or location of a certain kind of extrasolar planet, or something helpful but mundane like that.

From what I've read, it seems to be about a discovery of alien life on our planet, meaning it's a type of lifeform never before discovered.

Hah! Of course that's absurd and impossible

The online rumour going around is that bacteria has been found in a California lake which is composed of arsenic. Which means science needs to re-evaluate what type of life is out there.

It is, to be fair, more than a "just". It's a thoroughly predictable find, right enough, but evidence is worth more than theory.
It does provide significant credence to theories incl. that planets don't necessarily need to be earth-like to sustain life -- and that almost infinitely increases the probability of extra-terrestrial life existing. We already knew of billions of planets, exoplanets and moons - now we know that the number of them which can sustain life is, in all probability, massive.
