Super Furry Animals deserve a thread

Post by saurus »

Just saying. They are my favourite band who still operate in a somewhat traditional setup. I honestly cannot describe their music except their earlier indie-ish days before they completely branch off around the Guerilla (A MUST LISTEN) album.

Do any of you guys like them too?

Well I'm not letting this thread die so soon. What work or works of theirs do you like most Mexicola? My favourite must either be Guerilla as it is 5824504398 miles away from their previous work and such a diverse and unique sound, or PHantom Power as it is the most beautiful album ever.

Ah, you've caught me out a little here. I love the Super Furries from afar, but I'm not really a full-on fan as such. I only own two albums - Love Kraft and their Best of... thing from a few years back.

However, I just love Gruff Rhys' voice. It's so incredibly Welsh it's almost comical!
The guy is a proper artist though. He sang live just the other night on BBC2 - think it was The Review Show or something? So magical you could have heard a pin drop in the studio.

Favourite songs would be:

Rings around the World
Fire In My Heart
Golden Retriever

So all the popular stuf then! lol.

Educate me, what should I be listening too next?

SFA are one of my favourite bands ever. They've hardly put a foot wrong IMO.

I reckon Radiator is their best album though. Their all-welsh album Myng is great too.

Literally can't decide what my favourite would be, every one is so diverse.

Mexicola, I would recommend Phantom Power because it shows how amazingly balanced between an acoustic or traditional band sound and electronica they can be, or just from Fuzzy Logic and Radiator and work chronologically, as it just has great tunes and progresses.

Check how many bases this song covers

I saw Gruff play a solo show in London a couple of weeks back. Really great.

Will be touring his new album 'Hotel Shampoo' in February.

I saw SFA for the umpteenth time on Tuesday and they were tremendous. The sound was amazing, the only other time I've experienced sub-bass of that kind was at Leftfield shows in the nineties.

:-D I saw them in Cardiff on Sunday, it was superb and yeah the sound system was immense, the bass was fantastic. Last time I heard it that good was when they did the surround sound stuff on their songbook tour (i think).

Im seeing them again tomorrow night in London and then next time in July at the Green man festival in Wales.

Love this band to bits :) everyone should see them live at some point. May even get tickets for Saturday night and their after party too haha :) anyone up for that?
