I'm cool with pop music as a whole and I like Take Off Your Shirt a lot, it's probably one of my faves on the album.

i think about why i love bibio in the first place. and take off your shirt has NOTHING to do with that feeling.

but, there's something about it. i don't know... the cowbell? and that distortion is LAME. imagine if that were like clean, funk guitar? ugh. i almost dont want people to hear me listening to this. its like fucking chug rock.

the album as a whole is a little weird for me. i need to listen to it more at this point. but it's true that he is going in a more "pop" direction. which isnt necessarily i bad thing. to say you like or dislike "pop" as a whole is pretty strange. for me it's not about how melodic or catchy the music is. my problem is when the music churned out, as if it were a product. focus tested and guaranteed to sell. bleh. it freaks me out honestly.

but bibio is different. the guy's a musical genius and its obvious. the layers working here are amazing. it's as if all the songs just fall into piece, and work out. wish we got a little more instrumental stuff though.

I think it's the lifeless rhythm in Take Off Your Shirt that kills it for me. Combined with the greyness of that guitar sound and it seems wildly at odds with the rhythmic and tonal weirdness all over the rest of the album.

Totally agree on Saint Christopher. Cracking tune. Really like Anything New too, although it reminds me of Katamari Damacy. :D

Yeah I really don't like Take Off Your Shirt either, pop or not...whatever, I don't like it. It also sounds an awful lot like another track I can't put my finger on. I couldn't listen to K is for Kelson either, but I'm warming to it a bit more now, mainly because it reminds me of Sesame Street. Overall a solid album though, not too dissimilar to AA really in terms of its themes though there's a lack of MPC-based beaty stuff like Fire Ant...for better or for worse. Only repeat listens over time will tell!

To be honest Ambivalence Avenue never really struck me either the first time I heard it, it took me a little while for it to really click with me. Plus, I've only listened to some vids that have been posted on youtube so really need to hear the album as intended until I reserve judgement. It's certainly different and I like what I've heard so far.

I have not heard the album yet, but have heard the sampler. it sounded like there was more hip hop beats on this? can anyone tell me if that's the case or not?

My prediction was true.
This thing IS shitting all over Ambivalence Avenue.
There is not a song on this thing that I don't love.

Pretentious, Artists' Valley, Light Seep, Feminine Eye, Saint Christopher and Take Off Your Shirt are my favourites.

Indeed - very pop album - it's not the same thing like Fi or Vegnetting the compost, but liked almost all tracks from here. My faved tune maybe now is Wake up! or Excuses :)
Sound really reminds me of Nightmares on Wax :D

My mark - 7/10 - good.

More Excuses is one drugged out tune.

I like Take Off Your Shirt but I think some of the mixing and sound choices just don't work in the least.

I was so on point with this its ridiculous.

I am very sorry about the rants and raves, but I love Bibio around the same amount as BoC+Daedelus etc.

Thirded.
I listened to today, cover to cover, and it just didn't do that much for me. I was pretty bored after the fourth or fifth track.

In retrospect, I've never heard a Bibio album in which all of it I've liked. There are always a few good tracks, but on the whole I always feel bored with his music. I was really hoping this would be the definitive Bibio album. The album where he finally clicked with me. This wasn't that album.

Bibio is Boring.
