How is it not possible? What's stopping BoC or anybody else from asking the guys at Warp if they can do the same thing, with a download-only release shortly after the announcement, followed by a physical release a few months later? If they wanted to do it that way, they probably have enough clout with Warp to make it happen.dp wrote:That's not possible. That's my thoughts as well. I will listen when I purchase the digital copy along with the physical copy. Can't wait.

How could this long awaited, sacred upcoming release POSSIBLY be leaked. Like, I can't wrap my head around that to even find it ironically funny...
Radiohead aren't bound by the restraints of a record label. So they can do whatever they want and let the labels come to them.esselfortium wrote:dp wrote: ryetronics wrote: For a band that releases music so rarely, it would seem to me the only way to release this album without it leaking is to pull a Radiohead and give a week's notice at most.

I suppose BoC could ask Warp to set up up something similar but I just don't see it happening. Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE IT if BoC followed Radiohead's lead and released the album like that. I just don't think Warp will allow it.
But what the hell do I know? I'm just a lowly fan-boy picking at the scraps that BoC throw on the ground.

Unfortunately, you could still be right. Nothing is officially confirmed yet. It's still just an empty box at this point.Pretty in Pink wrote:Pretty in Pink wrote: I don't think a new album is coming out this year. Pretty much given up all hope of new BoC stuff.
Heh
But don't let that hinder you're excitement. I'm not!

Then again it makes no sense to update a website if there's nothing coming up... or to start a twitter account...Pretty in Pink wrote:HehPretty in Pink wrote:I don't think a new album is coming out this year. Pretty much given up all hope of new BoC stuff.

I hope Mike and Marcus do a bunch of interviews after the album is released to fill us in on what they have been up to for the past five years and to explain how their musical direction and production techniques have changed during this time. I suspect that this new album is going to be a major step forward technically, but I'm not sure. Will they still be using tape, old akai hardware samplers, analog synths, etc. or will they try something really different? Are they still avoiding computers and software for making music or have they decided to give it a chance?

If I remember correctly, they've only avoided working with computers at certain point(s) during their career. They've used software before.SonicDimension wrote:I hope Mike and Marcus do a bunch of interviews after the album is released to fill us in on what they have been up to for the past five years and to explain how their musical direction and production techniques have changed during this time. Here's a thought to warm the cockles of your heart. Right now - RIGHT NOW! - somewhere in the World, a carefully selected group of Warp bods probably has a copy of the new album (we're assuming it's an album, right?). Somebody has heard it and is planning interviews, photoshoots, artwork, production runs and.......dare I whisper it.....live shows???

I seem to remember reading and interview saying that with the campfire headphase they put everything together in logic. After the treatments and everything that they did of course, that would explain why it sounded a lot cleaner than their other albums.esselfortium wrote:If I remember correctly, they've only avoided working with computers at certain point(s) during their career. Yeah. Something about getting 'that perfect German timing' if I recall.Blink of an eye wrote:I seem to remember reading and interview saying that with the campfire headphase they put everything together in logic. I'm pretty sure they have been using computers for sequencing/arranging since MHTRTC, maybe earlier. I remember reading that they used computers quite a lot on MHTRTC, but from Geogaddi on they made a conscious decision to do all of their composition away from the computer and only use the computer for arranging/mixing purposes.Blink of an eye wrote:I seem to remember reading and interview saying that with the campfire headphase they put everything together in logic. I'm just wondering if they have maybe tried using some software instruments. As far as I know, they have never used a softsynth on any of their tracks.

How do you know? For all any of us can say for sure, "Dayvan Cowboy" could be comprised entirely of processed and looped samples of the Sandisons eating rutabagas.SonicDimension wrote:I'm just wondering if they have maybe tried using some software instruments. Literally any of their songs from the past 10 or so years could be using software synths and/or effects. That you can't tell for sure one way or the other is why they're professionals.

Just based on things they have said in interviews. They said they don't like VA synths and I think they do their sampling on hardware like the Akai S series. We know that most of their sound sources are acoustic instruments/sounds recorded onto tape and samplers along with their Roland SH-101 and a few other vintage electronic instruments. They have been critical of 'laptop musicians' who do everything on the computer. It's certainly possible that they have used some software instruments on their past records, but it doesn't really fit with their aesthetic or workflow.esselfortium wrote:How do you know?
