I actually just got done playing this game about 3 weeks ago... it is indeed shit-your-pants scary and well worth the money, especially to support the development team which is really only a few people. Well recommended, if you're ok with playing a first person game without any weapons. Also recommended, from the same company (Frictional games) is the Penumbra series, which is 3 shorter games, also survival-horror/puzzle games but *gasp* you can actually kill the monsters (albeit by hitting them with hammers or pickaxes, which is pretty difficult.) And they have a new game in the works, that won't be survival-horror, really looking forward to that to.
This is probably my favorite game to come out in the last few years. Admittedly I've only played less than half a dozen new games in that time but still. It's great. I completely got immersed into it. Tried to play it in the longest sittings possible to stress me out the most while playing.

Yes, this is a really great game, atmospheric and on the same level of scary as Silent Hill. I actually liked Penumbra a bit better though, I thought it was actually kind of scarier. Also the story in it was really good. If you like this game you should definitely check out Penumbra, it's only 20 bucks for all three.

What the video doesn't show is the 15 minutes or so of nothing significant happening that builds up to that area he's in. The story building up to that point once you've been in a couple of the previous areas starts to get creepy. This game is all about suspense. Subtle things happening that creep you out but don't outright horrify you.
