About time we had an Indie Games thread.. for online play or free download... Terry Cavanagh's games are great examples of creative and original games with a minimalist approach.

I'd really love to be involved in making something like this. The writing, design and sound... if only I could program!

Don't Look Back is my favorite game by Terry Cavanagh. The soundtrack is fantastic, the graphics are retro and the story (ending) surprisingly packs quite an emotional punch. A challenge to play but totally worth it - can be finished in 15-20 minutes. The soundtrack is also available to download on his blog!

I like the look of that Balloon Diaspora ss, I'll have to check it.

I have dipped my toes into the Indie game world a bit recently after going off games for a long time. I really enjoyed World of Goo and VVVVVV was such a blast of pure retro joy.

There's already a thread specifically about this game, but anyone who likes the survival horror genre should check out Amnesia: The Dark Descent from Frictional Games. Hands down the scariest game I have ever played.

I'm just going to keep posting cause I think these games are awesome. And I want to play others like these.

'Coma' can be played online at Newgrounds. The animation is lush, the music both playful and melancholic. It's more than a little dark, but once again, a 'complete' atmosphere, lovingly crafted.

Quite puzzling/challenging, but an amazing point and click game. The art is just stunning.

Super Meat Boy counts, that is a fantastic game but extremely challenging >_>

World of Goo was an indie game too, that was some of the best stuff I've seen in a puzzle game ever. The soundtrack I still listen to almost every day, it's so great.

Don't Look Back was amazing, like you said already

definitely play that if you haven't yet.

Cave Story is an amazing platformer, also play that for sure if you haven't yet.

I used to have a site bookmarked with some more that I forget at the moment :/

Ah yes, my friend showed me that game a while ago. Its realy great, and reminds me in some sections of David Firths animations.

Uhh, I should have a few things to add to this thread but i'm having a mind blank right now.
Well, here are a few cool indy games I played semi-recently:

Crayon physics Delux is a great game, soo much fun. Very simmilar to The Increadible Machine, if anyone played that old game.

Katakijin is a ninja platforming game, with great great artwork and realy nice controls.

Has anyone ever played "Barkley Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden"? It's like Final Fantasy but with basketball themes and you get to play as Charles Barkley.

These are my favorite Bosses:

Although I've never played the full version, what about "I Wanna Be The Guy", probably one of the most stressful game ever made.

Oh god, IWBTG. I died too many times on the final boss which made me give up and not want to beat it anymore >_> I've far surpassed my 1500 death count in IWBTG with, count 'em: 25 thousand deaths in Super Meat Boy. ;__; and I haven't even 100%'d the game yet.

As well, Knytt stories is pretty cool. And Within A Deep Forest is really cool by the same guy.

And I almost forgot, one of my absolute favourites for what it is: Eversion. It's a platformer, very mario esque, and it eventually leads into scenes where it's actually quite terrifying, for what seems to be such a happy game at first. Definitely get it and play the whole thing NOW =P

I got this game now, and from my short time playing it, it seems lovely.
Very rememicent of LucasArts adventure games, ie MonkeyIsland1/2 and Day of the Tentacle.
The music is sublime as well, and perfectly compliments the outstanding atmosphere of the game.
This is about as good as it gets for me.

I used to have the original Barkley Shut Up and Jam on SNES. Fun game.

I remember it took some convincing for my parents to get it because it had "shut up" in the title.

Does Castle Crashers count as an indie game? That was my fav game when I had a 360.

I love indie games, they're usually much more fun than most commercial games around. I was going to post about the indie games that I love but instead I will insist you to check Humble Bundle. It's not active right now but the idea is that you enter the site and you make a donation, you can donate as much or as little as you want, then you can also pick the organizations you want to donate to and then you have access to download a pack of indie games. I bought the second package which included Braid (one of the best indie games ever), Cortex Command, Machinarium, Osmos and Revenge of the Titans. You can have full access to all of those games and at the same time you can download the Windows, Mac or Linux version of each - in fact some of the games also include the option to download the OST.

If that doesn't seem like heaven then I should also add that you are given some keys which you can use in Steam and other similar services to download the games there if you prefer, and also I might add that the links they give you will not expire, I have brought them many months ago and I can still have access to them.

AND on top of all that, they included pack #1 to their second one, so I was given the opportunity to download another six great games: World of Goo, Aquaria, Gish, Lugaru, Penumbra and Samorost 2.

I know it seems like I'm spaming or trying to sell you something but I was very excited when I found out about this site, it's by far the best online purchase I have ever done! Here's the site:

I just dicovered a pretty impressive and free indie game, "The journey down : episode 1 Over the edge". In the 2D point and click style, the work done on it is huge, They skygoblin little team works on since 5 years, the graphics and the univers remind me all the great lucasarts and broken sword games. Episode 2 is plan for this summer.
