They have plans for solo projects. They are negotiating over a soundtrack of a big movie. They have already started working on a new Boards of Canada album. (they still have a contract for three albums at Warp).

Mike: "The next album will come as a shock to everyone. No one will expect this from us." And there are even plans for some live shows with a band in the spring. But this rumour has been doing the rounds three years ago too. Ever since they became silent.

they have mentioned live shows, videos, various albums and the like - all which come to nothing. i gather, or at least from my image of them, they are both perfectionist. does this explain why they have yet to really go ahead with these different avenues as artists, as they are extremely concious of just how people will perceive it? or is it simply a matter of these every day fantastical thoughts that somehow bury themselves beneath the stream of life. hmm, i'm thinking aloud. still obviously stoned and have alan watt's 'the taboo against knowing who you are' running through my mind...so, back to the point. i sure hope they do go ahead and do various live shows, videos etc. it would be extremely fascinating. right, bed.

I really am expecting something more than an album...I could see some sort of art video like Animal Collective's new movie they made (forget the name, still havent seen it all yet). It would make sense, since it means that there would be other people helping them out, which could answer the fact that things are "out of the bands control" in regards to a release. That and how they said the next album we will never expect from them.

There are artists who don't, and instead feed into the mainstream and "adjust" (euphemism for "sell out") their style to garner more money....and I don't respect those artists. At all. Way I (and apparently much of this forum) see it, music is purely art, and I for the most part believe art should entirely be hobby, not business.

And considering Radiohead made several million dollars releasing that name-your-price album a few years ago, it's fair to say well-established artists could continue to get by if they all decided to take the same route.

Most of them that get caught up in the mainstream thing become greedy, with the exception of people like Trent Reznor, and bands like Radiohead, which doesn't happen often especially in the rock scene.

Don't take things out of context. I meant on the whole. Of course there are tons of musicians that don't even think about the business of music.

It's called ODDSAC, and it's awesome. I'm not sure I want something like this from BoC, though. I just want an album. I don't care how different or the same it is---I just want an album.

That's the thing, I'm not taking it out of context. On a whole, most artists suck.

My point though was that I highly doubt BoC sincerely is concerned with the business aspect. Are they going to release a name your price album? Most likely not. Do they care about publicity stunt money and tour money? Not at all.

At best your making some educated guesses, but dont confuse their "myth" with reality.

Has anyone actually met Mike and Marcus, not BoC, but Mike and Marcus. Just because you've read some interviews doesn't mean you know who they are personally.
