Are any of you people interested in this kind of thing?

Eh, it's still a very limited piece of gear. I wouldn't even call it a piece of gear, I would call it more of a toy synth. I gotta have ADSR with my synths. It seems like a fun little toy, but nothing to seriously get into. IMO. It IS analog though which is pretty cool. I have played the original one, and it's just really really cheap. I know it's not meant to be an expensive feeling synth, but they could have made the housing out of sheet metal.
Of course it's better than the old version:

But then again, it's a toy, they can only cram so much into it.
Also, when are they going to revamp the microKORG? The XL sucks. The original was waaaay better.

If it's $100 then ok, anything more than that? No thanks. And they could have made the ribbon a bit longer.Seeya_Later wrote:
It does have a simple envelope. Not an ADSR but it is still better than the Monotron where you had to use the LFO as an envelope. Which frees up the LFO to do something else.
The sequencer being only 8 steps is the biggest drawback form me.

From the rear shot, it looks like an old school CV control. So you would need a Midi2CV converter, and that would set you back around £70 minimum. Korg tends to use Volt/Hz scaling making it incompatible with most other brands, so a midi2cv would be a must, unless you have an ms10 or ms20.coffee grapes wrote:really?? whats the in/sync/out then?
The sync is probably an input for another oscillator to do some phase locking of the oscillator.
I just seems like a toy without midi input, shame.
It doesnt seem to have even any time control of the envelope which also sucks.

Sync Jacks: A Return To Modular
"The monotribe provides both Sync In and Sync Out jacks, empowering multiple monotribe units to play and work together for a synchronized performance. Not just other monotribes, either. Audio line level pulses can trigger the Sync Input so the monotribe can be synchronized to a DAW system, for example. In addition, the polarity of the pulse waveform can be changed for both the input and output, so you can enjoy synchronized performance with a variety of equipment equipped with Sync connections."

Reminds me of the Doepfer Dark Energy which is awesome.Seeya_Later wrote:Did not see this coming:

And properly useful too, with both midi and USB. Twice the price of the Korg but a really great bit of analog kit.Music is Math wrote: Reminds me of the Doepfer Dark Energy which is awesome.

Yeah Korg needs to get their shit together on a design level. The Radius is awful looking and so is the microKorg XL. The original microKorg had a better body design and was heavier (yeah I know they still make them but still). It had the wood panels and painted metal control panel with more controls. Why would they ditch all of that and go to plastic with less controls and then charge more for it? Ugh...Seeya_Later wrote:Yeah, the dark energy would be a LOT more useful. A Dave Smith Mopho would be better than a Monotribe too. I've personally lost interest in the Monotribe. The best I can hope for is that it sells well, and spawns a better more professional synth in the future.
They need to come out with a classic series or something. Something that is analog, or modeling... but with a fantastic looking body to it. Seems like everything is being made on the cheap... My friend just bought the M-Audio Venom, and the whole thing is a light flimsy plastic peace of shit.
But I guess at the end of the day it's all how it sounds. But man, I do like the look of mean well built synth.

It really is about how it sounds. But good build quality potentially gives it a longer life. My DX7 is from way before I was born, but it's built like a freaking tank.
Personally for me, it's about the sound. I don't care if it's got a lousy interface or menu diving.
I've decided that I'm not interested in anything besides real analog synths. Unless it's a true powerhouse like Access Virus. Otherwise money is better spent on legitimate analog (unless it's Moog, who almost definitely overcharge).
I even like using CV/Gate signals rather than MIDI.
I have very expensive dreams...
