Very well put. For me Ae do the same thing through absense of complexity and texture that BOC do through saturation and depth. It's hard to imagine two acts so different yet i kind of associate them together.

hmmm, weird. i think there's plenty of groove to be found on both Confield and Draft 7.30, just took me a bit to 'notice' it. i think there'd be more in Untilted if it weren't running at such a teeth-ginding pace most of the time. it the bpms were taken down a notch i think it'd be pretty funky. i wonder how it sounds slowed down some?

I agree that they are very different...... although it takes some training of the ear sometimes to pick that up. My cousin, who loves a lot of IDM but is more of rock kid was listening to AE's "Clipper" with me and he said that it sounded like "really busy boards of canada." So there's a little bit of a relationship there, I guess.

My problem with Autechre is that I'm very here and there about my listening. I love Glitch and Slip and Second Bad Vibel and 444 but there's some Autechre tracks that I just hate too.... they're definitely not a BOC in terms of my comprehensive appreciation for their work.

Nowadays the track is still awesome but it doesn't give me that same feeling anymore. It must have been a combination of my mood back then although it wasn't a shitty period when I first heard it. Max once every 6 months I seem to be in the mood to check those albums out again and everytime I listen I discover new lush melodies or lovely beats.

It seems that I'm behind in time with Autechre. I'm slowly but surely starting to appreciate Confield and everything Autechre released after EP7. When I first heard Confield I thought it was shit, now 6 years later I like about 70% of the album. This also seems to be applicable for Draft 7.30 and Untilted.

Even if they are going to release unlistenable music I'll sure try to check it out because they'll always remain very special to me. After all, without them IDM wouldn't be where it is now.

I love Ae's early releases... Incanabula is the shit... I cannot quite grasp confield though... maybe there is some sort of "technique" I haven't yet mastered to be able to enjoy it's complexities... The first 2 tracks of Untilted are 2 of my favs however... they seem a little less abstract then confield or draft...

Btw Aesthetics, I agree completely. I raced through their first few albums and then came to a screaching halt after EP7. I'm trying to balance taking my time to appreciate the later albums and staying interested enough to do so. Yeah, I know that's heretical to say, but it's the truth. Slowly I am making progress, track by track, but it's very challenging, which is the point I guess.

EP7 is my personal favorite...Chiastic Slide coming up as a very very close second. I love all their work except for Incunabula. Hated them for years, then they just clicked. I'm sure everyone here knows what that means.

That's a difficult one, i'm a fan from the beginning. I have all their albums, 12 inches and remixes. AE is still my nr.1 in intelligent electronic music.

Sorry, I just really don't like Incunabula. It's one of those albums that I feel like I would've enjoyed more had I been there listening as it came out. I can see what it is as a placeholder and a starting point for what came later, but when compared to something like Draft 7.30, it's quite boring IMHO.

'lp5' is one of my all time favourite albums by anyone.. i love all their stuff to be honest, 'confield' being one of their best = its such an interesting that just sits on its own..mind blowing production.. so i guess im more into the new stuff... im just basicly not keen on anything they did before 'tri repetae'

but yeah, 'lp5' ... they were well and truly on top of their game for that one, in my opinion.
