My attempt at the BoC sound

Post by Seeya_Later »

It used to have drums, but I decided they were unnecessary. Instead I put some rain and thunder in the background. Oh, and FYI, this was all done on a Windows 98 with soft-synths.

Check out my other tracks too, although none of them are really like this one.

I don't want to bump this like an idiot, but I'd like some feedback please!

Yeah, I thought the voice clips were a bit too much actually, I couldn't find the version without them. Pretend they're not there.

That opening synth is gorgeous, man! I love it when the pitch slightly bends up!

I did that with a very subtle sine LFO applied to the overall pitch of the sound.

You a Lost fan? Cause the track John Locke is great! Lost is my favorite show ever. I have the Blu-Ray Complete Lost Collection and the Lost Encyclopedia. I'd definitely call myself a fanboy.

Anyways, National Film Board is a great BoC styled song. Very lush sounding. Good work fella. 8)

Yeah Lost is great. I remember seeing the first episode when it aired. Then I didn't have cable for a while. I actually watched all for the first time last december. Great show!
Namaste!

Yeah John Locke and Ben were my favorite characters. The John Locke track I made was to capture the feeling of his life. His sad life in the real world, his amazing leadership on the island and his bittersweet death.

look, bro, I don't wanna discourage you. But the fact you're attempting the BoC sound to me is silly. Not because boC are some almighty band which shouldn't be touched by man, but the fact you're trying to replicate a style of someone else. :|

I dunno if you have your own style already, or you're just messing around, but trying to replicate someone elses style to me, makes me angry D:

Hey "BRO". I don't plan on making more. This was merely a test. I don't plan on making more music like this. So whatever, your whole post was completely pointless.

... Uh... I'm sorry. :\

Thing is... I...
You put this up for people to comment on, if you didn't want negative comments, then you probably shouldn't have put it up.
And I never said it was BAD.

I'm trying to be as nice as I possibly can and you slap me in the face! You're getting offended over me saying something negative. This is why I don't like saying things on this board, you say something negative about music someone put up and everyone bites at you, calling you mean.

WHY DID YOU PUT IT UP IN THE FIRST PLACE THEN!!!!

... everybody had no problem criticising me first time I put up my music. <____<

Look, I meant no harm, I was just saying what I thought. You didn't have to take it out on me like you did, I'm sorry and I hope we can still be cool.

The reason he was peeved was because you seemed to be saying he was just trying to copy BoC's style and make it his own but he was actually just doing a one time thing.

Don't pull the constructive criticism card, you did seem to get it wrong.

I was looking for comments on how well I achieved the goal of recreating their sound. I wasn't interested in hearing the ethics of "copying" someone else's style.

dunno why you're gettin so mad.

it's good either way. >___>

and TTK gets even more hated on Twoism, yaya! :3

edit; just to be clear, I didn't get what you were doing at first, but now I do. No need to hate.
I apologise, that's the end o' that, I'll see myself out.

Imitating other artists' styles is a great way to learn and expand the boundaries of your own capabilities. This applies to things other than music, too. The more you can absorb in little tests like these, the more experience you'll have acquired, and the more ammo you'll have in your musical arsenal for your own uses. There shouldn't be any shame in this sort of learning exercise.

Woah, what happened here. I hope neither of you are discouraged to post music here. You are both fantastic musicians. Please don't stop posting music. No matter what it is.

I enjoyed it quite a bit past the half way mark.

The beginning was sketchy. But you pulled it together. :!:

Yeah, I'm shakey with intros. My track Glitzwater has a nice intro though.

Frankly, I'd like for you to continue this style and see where you go with it, I hear much potential. :-D
