If you're looking for open-world RPGs go for the fallout series. If you don't mind some linear gameplay get Final Fantasy XIII.
As for FPS's Killzone delivers quite well along with the Resistance series.
A must play is the third person shooter Uncharted series. I must say these games are incredible. You really need to play them.

Re: New to the PS3
metal gear solid 4 - it's super cheap now so there isn't any reason not to.iwishimademovies wrote:Not looking for a "best of" as much as a "you-should-play-this-for-this-reason-alone" list of games.
I've just completed my Master's coursework and took my Master's exam last Tuesday, upon receiving the results (fingers crossed for a Pass) my g/f will be buying me a PS3 (I know, right?).
And since I've spurned gaming for so long, I want to know where to start. I'll likely cruise the local used game store and probably join Gamefly.
What say ye!?
uncharted - they're both great.
killzone 2 - great shooter, and the sequel comes out in feb. no real wait involved there.
dead space - great horror game, and the sequel comes out late january.
mass effect 2 is coming out for ps3 in like two days and i'll be picking that up for sure.

Well the campaign was pretty decent, but short, as seems to be the pattern of all new FPS's these days. The multiplayer is really fun and polished. Lots of stuff to earn and achieve. It's definitely an improvement over Killzone 2. The controls are a bit lighter.Waterbagel wrote:how is killzone 3?
like, what's it like?
Bottom line: worth the buy if you're the kinda person who likes multiplayer FPS's. Otherwise, rent it.

That would be cool. But no, I haven't encountered it... yet...sevenELIXIR wrote:a nerdy question, but here goes anyway... anyone know how I can get the ps3 default wallpaper as wallpaper for my desktop? (the long horizontal slow waving tube/ sheet with sparkles)
Anyways, I just became a Playstation Plus Member. I did it mainly because of the new PSN feature where you can put some of your saved game files on to Sony's servers to store. So if your HDD goes, you've got it backed up. Also if you wanna play your own saved game on someone else's PS3, you just have to log in with your own PSN account and boom! There are your saved games.

Don't know if everyone knew this already, but I didn't. There will be reissue/remaster of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus in HD for the PS3. Scheduled for release this year. Good news, I've always wanted to play Ico.
Available for preorder on Amazon.
woops! I do still have a PS3 indeed but I haven't been active anymore for several months... PS3 gaming is on non active here. Lost my interest so it seems... happens in phases...747Music wrote:Fredd-E dude! Do you even have a PS3 anymore? My friend request has been waiting for months upon months now. lol. I don't wanna remove it though. Oh how I desire to be your friend. Tell me your my friend...?.............??.....!?!?!............

Yeah, this is really old news. I'll definitely be picking this up though. I've got them both for PS2, but I haven't beaten either of them, so I'm exited for the HD remake.
