Emeralds - Does it Look Like I'm Here?

Might have been shoved off by some as another Pitchfork lovers indie record.

But I gave it a listen and what I found was some quite breath taking, and at times beautiful cross between ambient and old synthpop that makes me think if BoC took their vintage synths and worked with Brian Eno.

I'm a Genetic fan, for sure!

I liked the release, definitely a new direction, not sure if I liked it as much as Solar Bridge.

By the way, if you like this, check out Skyramps, which is a collaboration project between Mark McGuire (from Emeralds) and Daniel Lopatin (Oneohtrix Point Never). They only have released one album back in 2009, it's called Days of Thunder and is about as orgasmic as it sounds, I promise

I've also been hearing that they will be working together more in the future; hoping for that.

Somehow I missed this thread. This album is fucking amazing. Basically anything anyone from Emeralds puts out is tops. Right up there with Oneohtrix Point Never in terms of synth-psyce-drone stuff. Can't recommend this album enough! Makes a great companion piece to the latest OPN album!

So I recently found this album on vinyl almost by accident at my local record shop (in their "experimental noise" section--the cover grabbed my attention), and I'm now a very big fan of their work. I did a search for it here and it's nice to see fellow BoC fans also like this work--seems to corroborate our shared aesthetic sensibilities. It's too bad that I also missed this thread; I wished I learned about this earlier.

It's the Sound Garden record store in downtown Syracuse, New York State. Trust me, it's worth a visit, but I'm doubtful that the value of this shop alone (as good as it is) redeems living in Syracuse.

This was a very solid recommendation, and so I wanted to thank you for it and also recommend it in case anyone else hasn't heard of Oneohtrix Point Never. Very good material.

I love this stuff so much, and it's nice to find more, younger artists pushing ambient music further, but without the cheesy ties to New Age speculative worldviews. In the mid-to-late nineties, when I was a little bearded 16 year old in Po-Dunkville, Florida, I searched all over for exactly this sort of music and art but I kept getting pushed into either Aphex, Orb, FSOL, Eno or some cheesy New Agey Garbage, like much of the material put out on the now-defunct "Silent" label. You know, the problem with that Silent stuff (ATOI, in particular, is guilty of this) was that some of it was almost pretty good, 'til they fucked it up with some cliche Buddha image/mantra and some quasi-scientific/pseudo-philosophical tripe about consciousness and infinity. Nice to see these new artists avoiding all that stuff. Seems like editions mego have it going on.
