Jupiter sounds - NASA-Voyager recording

Post by TheSilenceEchoes »

accidentally stumbled upon this on youtube. The sounds of Jupiter are recorded by NASA and it actually sounds like a beautiful ambient song... I think it's pretty amazing!

The sounds of the rings of Uranus are pretty amazing too:

Saturn (used to be my favourite planet but not so sure now ;)) sounds very very creepy:

expect nothing and live frugally on surprise.

I laughed out loud at the comment on the first video. "shut the fuck up jupiter" - honestly, sometimes the human psyche amazes and delights me. Humor is wonderful. (not being sarcastic - little things just amaze me is all)

Anyway yes, I have heard these, they are amazing and awesome. Space makes all KINDS of sounds. I can't wait til more recordings like this pop up on the internet - I want to hear quasars, black holes, supernovas, I wanna hear it all :)

And finally...

lots of people are saying that in the comments of these vids. lots of people are also explaining that it's particles traveling through space, not actual sound. the patterns of those particles are being transcribed into audio by scientists.

woah, thats pretty cool. I wonder how they measure the particle count, and also what sort of timeframe these recordings were taken over. The probably had to be sped up loads, to put it in the audio range. I'll perhaps do some googling and try to find some concrete answers about this.

Yeah, this. Plus with the amount of energy and particles out there i'm sure there's an atmosphere whether it consists of radiation or not of SOME kind within a certain distance. Though super subtle and obviously amplified by supersensative devices.

This is great stuff, really amazing. Jupiter is beautiful. Knowing it comes from Jupiter and thinking of it singing so many MANY miles away from earth gives me a special feeling... it's like it's singing to anything that has ears or instruments that can hear it. :D

Actualy according to the description in the youtube videos this apears to perhaps not to be the same thing from what i've quoted. Crazy stuff though, Jupiter is totaly great.

It's electromagnetic waves converted into audio. You can convert anything into audio. I'm reminded of old school tracking programs that had the ability to convert virtually any kind of computer file into audio. My friends and I used to write giant text documents just to drag them into Impulse Tracker and convert them into what were referred to as "text synths". I also did this with .bmp images. Funny thing, the wave form view would depict the image as if it were sitting on its side, with the brighter colors rising higher than the darker ones. Of course, Aphex Twin also utilized something similar in a couple of his compositions.

Yeah, importing files as Raw Data in Audacity can yield interesting results :] word of advice::: Don't import the entire game of Crysis. It took 2 hours and was all white noise the entire time besides this brief moment where it started bubbling and crackling.

And the Infinite, I don't think there's anything crazier than the Infinite, I'm always amazed by the fact that I can't even imagine it.

I did try though.

space exploration, while fantastic sounding, is a little.. impractical.

it's best (and vastly cheaper/safer) to observe from our own little blue mote of dust, and innovating better ways to observe and theorize about the workings of our universe.

I saw Thor last Friday, and in it, a small team of freelance scientists are looking for an Einstien-Rosen Bridge (wormhole). Well, one is there, and it connects our planet to the planet where the Thor mythology originated from. The same week that Thor came out...
