Been a long time fan of Machine Drum and the Merck label (rip). Urban Biology was a great album, I think my favourite is still probably his debut Now You Know though, if I remember rightly he was only about 18 when he released that. He's still releasing stuff now, it's a step away from his early stuff, more hip hop orientated, but I dig it.

I love Machine Drum. Been a fan for years, but it's nothing like BoC. Boards are more mature, musically.

Anyone heard the new album Room(s)? Definitely an interesting sound, heavy focus on vocal loops as found in a lot of dubstep but the percussion is much faster than dubstep, although the tracks themselves don't seem so fast and still contain those lush synths and pads that make Machinedrum stand out from the other artists doing the similar kind of thing I reckon. Become obsessed with the Now U Know Tha Deal 4 Real track. Bought it on vinyl and got it today, if you send Travis an email with a screenshot of your receipt for Room(s) he'll send you an exclusive EP too! Haven't heard that yet though.

I love Machinedrum. He's got a few tracks that remind me of Boards.
Urban Biology is my favourite album.
Room(s) while its more down tempo its still an amazing album, Where Did We Go Wrong? is always stuck in my head.
Want To 1 2 is also a lot of fun.
Some of his work sounds a lot like Squarepusher also.

Actually this guy is almost totally software. He used a tracker initially and then bought a Dr. Boss 202, Yamaha CS1x and some pedals, now he is on ableton and uses primarily midi controllers. But he definitely uses a lot of samples.

''I've always been a massive fan of Boards of Canada (if its not obvious already!). 10-11 years ago I stumbled upon a bootleg recording of one of their extremely rare live performances at the Warp 10 Birthday party in 1999. The closing tune at this show has always remained a mystery to me. As far as I know it has no title and has never been released. It's quite possibly one of my favorite things they have done and really is a shame it never came out. Fast forward to Summer 2012... Since I am a huge nerd I decided to take this bootleg recording and re-produce it for fun. Using the recording I laid new drums over the existing drum patterns (almost 100% accurate to original), replayed some synth parts and the bassline. The only thing I didn't try to re-create was the original vocoder parts and some random samples so I used the original bootleg recording for that. I was tempted to make a shorter 4-5 minute version but I figured I should preserve the original piece in its intended length."

I thought both artists sampled breakbeats, no? At least, it sounds like to me.

Anyway, I never got into Machinedrum. Some closer friends recommended his 2011's album, Room(s). I'm going to pick up this album someday, so I can give him a proper listening chance.
