Well...
I think it's getting so many negative comments because everyone had a blueprint in its mind of all possible melodies and sounds BoC could use in their new album, by looking at all they have done (which is a lot). They didn't live up to everyone's mental blueprint but instead they tried something different, with less distinctive melody. Quality over diversity. It's not surprising that not everyone is pleased.

My curiosity overcame me and I have the leaked version. I am really feelin this! Some of my favorites are Chromakey Dreamcoat, Peacock Tail, Dayvan Cowboy, Constants are Changing, and Slow This Bird Down.
Not better than Geogaddi, but definately on par with mhtrtc and iabpoitc. I'll write a better review of what I think after the album sinks in a little more.

I have to say I love the new album. The work on each sound is just wonderful. I like track 13 the best I think. It's great early in the morning driving to work drinking tea. 2 and 3 are really good too. The only track I'm not feeling is 11. Other than that, it took some time but I can't get enough! I'm down with the new one, and can't wait to get the vinyl ...
I also think ''Slow This Bird Down'' is the best track. Probably the most eerie song on the album. I listened to it in the car on the way to work in the morning (except I was drinking coffee). Very nice and relaxing. The last two tracks imo are the only weak point of the album. They're ok, but I wish there was some drums.MJed5150 wrote:I have to say I love the new album. Yes, still there.Chazbaps wrote:Actually, it's growing on me too. But it's still a disappointment. Try this test: play any of the tracks off the new album, and then play 'Everything you do is a balloon' straight after. Still think TCH is so good?
Tracks like dayvan cowboy are definitely on the same level as the 'magnificent everything you do is a balloon'.

I completely and utterly second that, this album is growing on me fast XD.Fredd-E wrote: Tracks like dayvan cowboy are definitely on the same level as the 'magnificent everything you do is a balloon'.

After a couple more listens with a bit better earphones, I'd like to change my earlier statement about the album not possibly being then because it's too dull. It's far from being dull. It's definitely a grower...I think that the growers are definitely some of the best music. it forces you to stretch your bounderies past your comfort level, what you're used to.
This is such a more subtle album, but more beautiful. Someone on the yahoo group put it well saying it's more of a musical reference album than a literary one, that with this one they've mastered sound.
84 Pontiac Dream blew me away on the 3rd listen. Maybe it helps too to have the confirmation on Bleep that this album is the real thing.
