I live in Edinburgh, have never met the guys face to face - once saw Marcus walking down Princes Street but didn't want to hassle the poor guy about Boards-related-geekiness so respected his privacy and left him well alone - but my friend who does know them really well seems to think that the reason for a delay in any material might stem from the fact that Warp owe them money .... quite a lot by the sounds of it and have done for some time .... make of this what you will - I spoke to him about this yesterday so consider this up-to-date news / gossip .....
Interesting angle. Although I'd reckon non-payment would mean breach of contract, so therefore BoC could move on elsewhere if they wanted. We still haven't heard a squeak out of them for 6 years, so seems unlikely.
(Sigh, what do I know? Maybe there really are some kind of contractual shenanigans going on and the boys are desperate to bring out more music and spill the beans.)
I get the feeling that BoC are kinda 'done' with releasing music or at least to the outside world. They just didn't feel like telling anyone really!
I don't know. If we don't get an album this year then I'm really in doubt as to whether we ever will. Just seems like way too long. Maybe they're trying to come up with a new sound - which is never easy...

because they have a contract, for 5 lps if i'm not mistaken. and i doubt warp would have any problems with boc's releasing schedule. every label has a few artists that are on their roster not for money, but rather prestige. it is also ridiculous to consider the problem being on warp's part. accept the reality, guys, stop blaming random people.
Are you sure that EVERY label has artists like BoC? Not for money but for prestige? Hahah I doubt it very much. Not in this day and age.
every big label at least. imagine the attention warp will get when new aphex twin or boc drops. also, they're not losing money on boc as they don't require money to rent a studio, etc.

I sometimes wonder how hardly any chitter chatter or rumours come forth upon the comings and goings of BoC via Warp employees. If you get my drift.
Do they have to sign The Warp Official Secrets Act? Surely someone, somewhere must have an idea and talk about it after work over a few beers.
It's fascinating how BoC totally avoid the worldwide information highways, in this day and age.
Maybe they only deal with Head Honch Beckett!! LoL
Like a scene out of 007.
I always wondered this too! The industry I work in is a very small world, i.e. everyone knows everyone and all the gossip that goes with it. I always felt certain musicians were the same.
I don't think they'll NEVER release an album again. It could be ten years, but it'll happen.
I almost wish I had enough money to pay them what Warp owes them, and buy their contract from Warp. Then set up a small BoC-only label, and give the free reign.

I've had a few sunday sociables myself, and this is my first post to this mammoth thread! I agree with you, it even goes back to their supposed 'early releases'. We've gotten copies of Twoism, Boc Maxima and the Old Tunes tapes, but the other stuff I think was never released even to friends and family. Someone, somewhere along the line would've let it slip. That we've never heard or seen copies of 'Play By Numbers' or 'Hopper Bay' in all this time kinda confirms it. And that no one has any inkling from either Warp or BoC associates about their new album since the 'black box' is astounding! You gotta admire them, they only release the info when they want to!
I hope they do release a new album this year. If they don't, they don't. I'm not gonna get my knickers in a twist over it! There's too much other good music out there to enjoy in the mean time.

BS
Funny, I say the same thing looking back at what you've posted in the past!

Well, yes - non-payment would be a breach of contract, but if that is an issue Warp would undoubtedly dispute that, and therefore also dispute BoC's right to terminate the contract themselves.
BoC would therefore presumably have to fight it in court and prove breach on Warp's part in order to walk away from any obligations they have to provide Warp with more albums.
