Very similar story for me as well! First NIN lead to to Aphex, then mucking about on cdnow, I checked out the similar artists to Aphex Twin, saw the Twoism EP, had a listen to Iced Cooly and just about fell over! It was EXACTLY what I was looking for! For the longest time, I felt that I was meant to discover this band. I still do, but you lose sight of that when stuck in the purgatory waiting game after digesting everything they have available. Time. Is a funny thing.

NIN was my favorite band for YEARS. I attempted to collect everything they had done (all because of those fucking Halo catalog numbers!). I kind of stopped after With Teeth though.

Jk, but With Teeth is genius, IMO. People expect something to sound like something they've previously heard too much. Shame you stopped, though. I myself being a heavy listener of Ambient music thoroughly enjoyed TR/AR's Ghosts I-IV and The Social Network Soundtrack.

Now, prolly should get back on topic instead of switching this to an NIN thread.

Pfft, F BoC for a minute. I didn't say With Teeth was bad. I liked it a lot. Saw them live twice after it came out. Liked Year Zero and Ghosts even more. Some of The Slip was pretty good, too. Have yet to hear the Social Network soundtrack.

I just meant that I stopped collecting them like I used to due to finances being so tight. That and I don't really care for CDs much anymore now that I have a record player.

If you think about what he said there (in 2009) it actually implies that there was an album ready to go in 2008. Can you think of a good reason to sit on a finished album for three or more years if there actually was one? I sure can't.

- Sample clearance
- Rejected by the record company
- Accepted by the record company but slated for a particular month to fit in with some BS marketing strategy (my money's on this, personally)
- Pulled by the band because they want to go in another direction
- Features collaborators that are signed to other labels and can't be released until their contract is up
- Shelved until they are able to tour it (already ruled out by mdg)
- Shelved until some legal situation between the band and the label is resolved (possibly ruled out by mdg)

Anyone think of any more? Then there's the simplest answer which is that the album was NEARLY done, enough that predicting a release date was sensible, but then something happened to change that

- band got disheartened and changed direction
- band had personal stuff that halted production (mdg seemed to imply this on WATMM)
- some shenanigans with the label or lord knows what
- magnetic tape harder to find on ebay

etc etc

BS you say? Maybe ...... but I'm not posting to string anyone along - I'd love a new album to come out as much as everyone else who reads this. If you live in and around Edinburgh and you're culturally engaged you generally tend to hang out with and hear from the same folks in said art and music circles about whatever's happening on the scene - I'm very fortunate to have good friends in Found, Eagleowl, MAMMAL and Wounded Knee ( checkout MAMMAL aka 7VWWVW if you're suffering BOC withdrawal symptoms) - I also used to work in a now-defunct music shop in the city centre alongside most of the musicians who became the aforementioned bands / artists so I've got to know some cracking talent and nice peole in this city over the past few years .... christ - sound like a goddam groupie ..... but that's the angle I'm coming from on all this just so you know!

Anyway - skip to the end / get to the point - you hear murmerings and you meet people and you gather bits of gossip and hearsay - is it true? I can only paraphrase ......

I heard DJ Vic Galloway was trying to track BOC down for an interview ( about 6 months ago I guess) - that never came to fruition .... I found out, just today actually, from a friend who grew up with the brothers that they are contractually obliged to a 5-album deal with Warp - noticed someone else pointed that out today / yesterday - besides this she didn't know what they were up to ( other than having loads of kids and getting on with their lives quite happily by the sounds of it ) as she hadn't seen them for ages. And Warp owing them money .... again it's just what I've heard - could it point to Warp being in trouble in these stricken times of recession - who kens?

Answers on a postcard ..... and fingers crossed for an album soon

I have no idea where that came from, but it's nonsense. Warp is a thriving label, and the only people who owe BOC money are illegal file-sharers and shady third-party Facebook apps who host officially unreleased music and charge money for it, certainly none of which reaches Warp or EMI or the band themselves!
