Also interested in full tape sides if they weren't digitized step by step. A 30-45 minute live wav take may have been hard disc exploding back in the late 90's. Should I assume these were recorded with some high powerfangled computer?

not sure if i follow, but boc recorded them on tape and put on tape in the 90s.

they were digitalized by some fan in 00s.

and yes, original lossless unsplit files of these tapes would make me a happier man. doubt they exist, though. afaik afot were found on slsk in the exact form we have them now, so whatever someone has is probably a transcode of a transcode (that some of you put on tape for extra warmth which is hilarious if you know a bit about engineering).

That's different than the one I had, which was also split in tracks in the right way, but the version you posted has much more treble and cleanliness to the sound, from the few samples I tried so far. Interesting :)

That is actually the medium-quality rip which Fredd-E had compiled recently. I'll put together a sample shortly of what I mean - you can see that there is an even higher quality rip than that one of Old Tunes.

Had to double post this because there are two exceptionally similar and relevant threads going on at once, but here: http://sequoia.ax.lt/afot/ this demonstrates what I mean

Well, if you wait, I'm amidst relabelling it and filling in the gaps - but if you give me a moment I'll give you a partial version :P

Edit: I have a gapless recording of A Few Old Tunes Side A on my hands, which I'll upload. It'll take me a while because it's a couple of hundred meg as it as saved as FLAC. It is absolutely 100% NOT a lossless copy, but it sounds a lot better than the other versions that are circulating and I won't make it an mp3 to save space because then even more quality will be lost.

:)

All the gaps are where they are supposed to be. There are no gaps in between songs which fade to each other

that's because mp3s add silence in the beginning and end of every song. it's a compression thing i guess. lossless formats don't have that.

Doesn't work in FF4, even with IE Tabs, I had to fire up that cancerous thing that is Internet Explorer 9 to actually get a listen... I'm still feeling infected and rather dirty.

The crispness and quality however is amazing... so the question is...

Where can I get it? ;)

This link will not work yet as the file is still uploading but basically just keep trying it as it will eventually hahaha. I'd appreciate any info on downloads speeds from this server btw... :p

A Few Old Tunes Side A.flac

And of course, if someone lovely decides to create a CUE file I'll host that too.

I think it's worth mentioning that I find listening to this version a lot more enjoyable!

cheers
mark

edit: just to reiterate this is NOT a lossless copy, it's just saved as flac to prevent further degredation. also, if you could try that link again to see if the audio player works yet, that'd be great. i think it's because firefox does not bundle support for mp3s... :)

I have high quality copies of some songs from Side B of AFOT, and also of OTv2. I'll get round to that some other time. :P

as i alluded to the recording is not actually lossless, simply saved as a FLAC to avoid any further compression artefacts. The link works now :)
