I don't like that track either – IMO, it's the only truly low point of MHTRTC. If I were the guy that BoC named that song after, I'd be disappointed and ask them to name a better song after me.
Really? I didn't think anybody would have anything against Smokes Quantity. I absolutely love that droney lofi synth and those fucking FANTASTIC drums. It also has nice building intstrumentation. It's very minimal and great example of how you can achieve so much with so little. Great track on MHTRTC, but I think on Twoism it's ever so slightly better.
I'm gonna let pre-Warp tunes off as their earlier stuff is the sound of them finding their feet, there's a reason why old tunes was not officially rereleased for Warp instead of Twoism I guess.
I enjoy The Campfire Headphase but the second half kind of drags and goes right over my head. It's due another in-depth listen and I'm sure to re-evaluate, but it's most apparent on Constants Are Changing/Slow This Bird Down. Granted, incredibly detailed pieces but quite non-moving ideas wise perhaps?
The worst BoC tracks are the ones that a merely clips from television or something, like Blockbuster. The most annoying BoC track is probably Music for Pylons---however, I like some of the musical ideas behind this track... it's just hard on the ears.

It changes a lot, but admittedly it's probably An Eagle In Your Mind. I think it's by far their THE MOST diverse song. Other personal favorites include Roygbiv, Pete Standing Alone, Open The Light and One Very Important Thought...and yeah probably Smokes Quantity as well

Maybe to you or others but to me House is the worst Boards song hands down. I'm not upset. I just dislike that song. When I look at some of the songs people in this thread say they dislike I am baffled in the same way you are about why I dislike House. I could say I really dislike Feel the Sky and people would wonder why and tell me I'm wrong or whatever. That is the thing about taste. It is subjective.

Dude, there's NOTHING wrong with disliking anything, I'd never say such a thing. But I'm always just interested in WHY people like or dislike something, I want me some alternate views! I just don't understand why it's this particular track that gets so much criticism, since I don't find much to criticise. And I'm not baffled, just curious. Honestly I don't even really like that track, it's decent but nothing too amazing...

To be specific I dislike it because it sounds bad. It just isn't a good song. It is jarring and disconcerting in a bad way. It feels out of place on an album (Old Tunes 1) that is admittedly a collection of unrelated tracks. Immediately after it comes the Holy Trinity of Finity, Forest Moon, and Skimming Stones which are three of my favorite songs. It is like comparing a worm infested apple to a delicious apple pie lovingly made just for you by your grandmother and just waiting for you to dig in.

...How is it even possible to mis-read that...well maybe it has something to do with being up for over 24 hours but now to the point.
There really is no track on MHTRTC that I can't stand, but if I were to say the ones I enjoy the least then probably Triangles & Rhombuses, Sixtyten, and Olson (ooh, shocking!). But as said none are bad in any way, I'd say at least a solid 6 or 7/10 for all of 'em.
Magic Window - what a gimmick. Yes I understand the significance of the frequency but even then... the frequency response of my headphones / speakers are not good enough to play it back - I think.
the ones on MHTRTC only get better with time, I'm still amazed...
Old Tunes or early works.. somewhat pale in comparison... there were a few influxes here and there of the sound they would finally be known for, but yeah the early stages were not as gripping. Good thing they kept working at it.

If the frequency is anything above 44,100 Hz, then it won't even be present on CDs.
