Best/Worst Fan-Made BoC Remix/Mash-up?

Post by Goiter Sanchez »

Either fan-made or another musician remixing a BoC song; also mash-ups (two or more disparate songs thrown together).

My favorite fan remix is the 'Olsen - Laconic Flow Remix' by Chris J. Hampton aka 'Beek'. It adds fairly generic IDM percussion and changes the melody's key... but it works REALLY well for some reason! The best thing about this remix are the acoustic guitars thrown in. If you haven't heard this you simply MUST track it down; it is an addmitedly safe and faithful to the original but the guitar effects distinguish it from the rest!

My favorite mash-up is without a doubt 'Anew Contraption' by 'AudioDile'. 30 tracks get mixed and matched in a VERY professional style. The way AudioDile utilizes the sample from 'Dandelion' is SO awesome, as is the way he mixes 'Roygbiv' and 'Telephasic Workshop'. A MUST-HEAR!
I make music as Sweguno.

You can get "Anew Contraption" from Fredd-e's site:

http://fredd-e.narfum.org/boc/discog/

Just scroll to "mixes of Boards of Canada"... there is an mp3 link to the left

Check out the rest of the site if you haven't all ready... very complete info on the boys.

I'm trying to find the Olson remix myself...

the 'a new contraption' mix is classy alright.

there's a nice mash called happy messaging (happy cycling vs grandmaster flash's 'the message') and another called hexual healing (turquoise hexagon sun vs marvin gaye's 'sexual healing') doing the rounds on slsk.

Just checked out "anew contraption" and have to say that I'm rather impressed. I didn't realize how many tracks could work with those "nlogax" drums. The only other place I know you can hear the Boards being mashed is on the mix cd that came with the WarpVision dvd. I didn't like it initially, but it really grew on me and now I love it to death. Cheers.

Check out the link in my previous post...

Goiter Sanchez just send me two remixes which I'll upload in a sec.
We could do a poll about the Best/Worst Fan-Made BoC Remix/Mash-up, there are 4 candidates right now and a few more to come.

I second that thank you. Oh and that 8 Bit Remix is pretty cool. It took me back to my childhood days as an NES addict. Once again, "the past inside the present."

Any chance that Helios remix track, "sevenfortyseven" I believe it's called, could fall under this category?

Yes, thank you also for the links. Olsen and OTHR are some of my favs, and its fun to hear other interps.

Ever hear of any BoC "covers?" I read about a show in Colorado where a band called Sound Tribe Sector 9 or something did a cover of ROYGBIV. Haven't heard of them or the live track, but I bet it'd be interesting.

I think (hope) that Warp will have a release with the London Sinfonietta's interpretations of some BoC tracks from a year or so ago. I thought I read about it in their newsletter... my memoree not too gud.

The 8-bit remix takes me back to the days of playing Moon Patrol.

Heh, this netlabel is based in the same city I live in... And the remix has a lot of potential... Doesn't hit the mark in my opinion though.
